Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Airport Honolulu Hotel – it’s exactly what you’d expect from a 3-star place near the airport, but honestly, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. When I first pulled up, my immediate thought was “yep, this is definitely a hotel,” but after staying there a few times over the years, I’ve actually grown to appreciate what it does well.

The thing about this place is that it knows its lane and stays in it. You’re not getting any Instagram-worthy infinity pools or marble lobbies here, but what you are getting is a solid, no-nonsense spot that actually understands why people choose airport hotels in the first place. The rooms are clean – like, properly clean, not just “looks clean from a distance” clean – and the beds are surprisingly decent for what you’re paying. I mean, I’ve slept worse in places that cost twice as much. The air conditioning works (crucial in Hawaii, obviously), and the walls are thick enough that you won’t hear your neighbor’s entire phone conversation at 6 AM, though you’ll definitely know when planes are taking off if you’re a really light sleeper.

What I actually love about staying here is how it strips away all the pretense of fancier Honolulu hotels. The staff doesn’t try to oversell you on activities or restaurants – they just tell you straight up what’s nearby and what’s worth your time. There’s this local plate lunch place about a ten-minute walk away that the front desk clerk mentioned to me once, and honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite meals that trip. The hotel shuttle to the airport runs pretty regularly, which saves you the headache of dealing with rental car returns or expensive taxi rides, especially during those crazy busy summer months when everything takes twice as long. Parking is free too, which – if you’ve spent any time in Honolulu – you know is basically like finding buried treasure.

I won’t lie to you, this isn’t where you want to spend a romantic anniversary or celebrate a major milestone. But if you’re flying in late, need a clean place to crash before an early flight, or you’re one of those travelers who spends most of their time out exploring anyway, it hits that sweet spot of good enough without breaking the bank. The 7.4 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s not going to disappoint you either. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially when you’re saving your money for all the other amazing stuff you came to Hawaii to do.

  We loved the free airport shuttle, the drivers were friendly and helpful. There’s a courtesy phone beside baggage claim 24 where you can call the hotel and the shuttle will be with you in a few minutes.

  Breakfast was an interesting experience. Open air, so a bit chilly on a December morning. On one day, only one waiter for 40 customers, but he was cheerful.
  
  It was convenient that my car rental agency was in the hotel. I also was able to walk to the airport, instead of using the hourly free shuttle. Did not notice any airport noise of significance.

  The hotel is right next to the HNL airport which is convenient. It’s peaceful and away from the main city crowds or noise. It’s also 10min away from Pearl Harbor. There is a mini gym at the hotel and the hotel is only 25min away from the main city attractions.

  I was lucky that I booked this hotel 1 hour before arrival on 31Dec2024 11pm, as my pre-booked hotel in Waikiki was too loud to have a good sleep. The location is really good that it is only 5 mins drive from the airport.

  We liked that you had to use your room key to go up in the elevator.
  The family enjoyed the swimming pool. Especially my 88 yr old step dad. He was able to go swimming for the first time in over 30 yrs.
