The lodge has this rustic, almost cabin-like feel that perfectly matches the misty, cool atmosphere of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. You’re trading palm trees for ohia lehua forests here, and honestly, it’s a refreshing change from the usual beach resort scene.

The location is actually incredible — I mean, there’s a reason couples rate it 9.2 out of 10. You’re literally minutes from Kilauea Crater and all the main park attractions, but tucked away enough that you feel like you’re in your own little world. The property sits in what locals consider the best part of Volcano village, and after staying there, I get why the location score hits 9.3. It’s that sweet spot where you can walk to Volcano House for dinner or drive into the park before the tour buses arrive. The cool mountain air at this elevation — around 4,000 feet — means you’ll actually want that extra blanket at night.

The Room Experience

My room was simple but comfortable, with that cozy lodge aesthetic that works perfectly up here in the mountains. Don’t expect high-end amenities — this is more about being comfortable and well-positioned for exploring. The rooms have a sort of vintage Hawaii feel, and honestly, after a day of hiking through lava tubes and crater trails, you just want somewhere clean and quiet to crash. The beds are decent, and there’s something really peaceful about falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest instead of ocean waves for once.

Practical Perks

The continental breakfast is pretty standard — nothing fancy, but it gets the job done before you head out for a day in the park. What I really appreciated was the free parking right on site, which might sound basic but becomes important when you’re dealing with the limited parking situations at some of the popular crater viewpoints. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the less crowded trails, which is worth its weight in gold during peak season. They’re also good about updating guests on current volcanic activity and which areas of the park are accessible.

  Very relaxed and picturesque setting in the forest. So quiet, except for the birds and frogs. Room 5 is very comfortable. Warm indoors, plenty of blankets and tea, coffee & hot chocolate provided. Late checkout included on weekends was very appreciated. Location is great if you have a car and want to get an early start at the National Park.
