You know what caught me off guard about Anthurium Cottage? It’s actually got this old-world charm that somehow doesn’t feel stuffy at all. I mean, when you hear “cottage” you might picture something cramped or overly cutesy, but this place strikes that perfect balance between intimate and comfortable. The moment I walked in, there was this subtle scent of – I want to say jasmine? – mixed with that clean, airy smell that tells you someone really cares about maintaining the space.

The rooms are honestly better than I expected for a four-star place. Mine had these gorgeous hardwood floors that creaked just enough to feel authentic (though thankfully not enough to wake anyone up when you’re sneaking to the bathroom at 2 AM). What really impressed me was the attention to detail – the anthurium plants they’ve got scattered around aren’t just for show, they’re actually thriving, which tells you something about how well they maintain everything else. The bed was one of those situations where you sink in just right, not too soft but definitely not hotel-firm. And the lighting! Whoever designed this place gets that harsh overhead lighting is the enemy of a good evening – there are these perfect reading lamps and ambient options that actually make you want to hang out in your room.

I have to say, the staff here really knows their stuff without being overly formal about it. Check-in was smooth, parking was easy (which, honestly, can make or break a trip), and when I had a question about the best coffee spot nearby, the front desk person gave me this whole mini-tour of local recommendations that felt genuine, not rehearsed. The common areas have this lived-in quality that I love – comfortable seating that’s clearly been chosen for actual humans, not just Instagram photos. Sure, it’s not going to blow you away with flashy amenities or over-the-top luxury, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. It’s more like staying at the home of a friend who has excellent taste and actually knows how to make guests feel welcome. The whole place just feels… intentional, I guess? Like every choice was made with the guest experience in mind, not just the marketing photos.

  The location was great, the grounds beautiful. The property was super clean. Kitchen had everything we needed. The hot tub was appreciated after a chilly day.
