Poipu Beach is practically at your doorstep, and I mean the good part of Poipu Beach where locals still hang out. You can walk to some incredible snorkeling spots that tour groups often miss, and the sunset views from nearby Brennecke’s Beach are honestly spectacular. Having private parking might sound like a small thing, but when you’re hauling beach gear and groceries from the local markets, you’ll appreciate not circling around looking for a spot.

The Accommodations

The rooms here lean more toward spacious condos than traditional hotel rooms, which actually works really well for longer stays. Most units come with full kitchens — and I’m talking about actual kitchens with real appliances, not those tiny hotel kitchenettes. The furnishings feel comfortable rather than fancy, but everything’s clean and well-maintained. What I particularly liked was how many units have lanais (balconies) where you can actually sit and enjoy your morning coffee while planning the day’s adventures.

The Experience

This isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find elaborate pools or multiple restaurants, but that’s sort of the point. Aston At Poipu Kai works best for travelers who want a comfortable home base for exploring rather than a resort where you never leave the property. The grounds are well-kept with tropical landscaping that feels natural rather than overly manicured. There’s something peaceful about returning here after a day of hiking the Na Pali Coast or exploring Waimea Canyon — it feels like coming back to a friend’s place rather than checking into a hotel.

  Front Desk Staff (Mae and Kaysha) were exceptionally helpful–always smiling/friendly, gave good advice re: places to go, dining, etc.—They were amazing! When there were technical problems in the room (TV, internet, etc.), and maintenance was called, they came in record time (usually 5 minutes or less!!)–have been places where you wouldn't get service for a day or two–this was exceptional service! Liked that you could get DVDs to watch for free–provided something to do in the evenings.

  The location was great, as it was close to great beaches and an excellent area for walking. The lanai was peaceful with beautiful landscaping—a quiet decompression place. The condo was clean and provided a much better experience than any hotel room.
