You know what? The Aston at the Waikiki Banyan is one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly why it works. I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star property with a 7.3 rating, but here’s the thing about Waikiki: sometimes you just want a solid place to crash that won’t drain your bank account, especially when you’re spending most of your time on the beach anyway.

The whole setup is actually pretty smart. It’s got that condo-hotel vibe going on, which means you get way more space than your typical cramped hotel room – we’re talking actual kitchenettes where you can store those expensive Foodland groceries instead of eating out for every single meal. The building itself has this sort of vintage Hawaii feel (translation: it’s been around a while, but they’ve kept it up decently). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being right in the thick of things. You get these glimpses of the ocean from some rooms, and while it’s not a full oceanfront experience, there’s something nice about catching that sliver of blue between the buildings when you’re having your morning coffee.

Location-wise – and this is where local knowledge really matters – you’re literally a few blocks from Kuhio Beach, but more importantly, you’re close to the less touristy stretches where locals actually hang out. The whole Banyan area puts you within walking distance of real food trucks (not just the overpriced tourist ones), and you can easily duck over to Kapiolani Park when you need a break from the Kalakaua Avenue madness. Parking can be a bit of a hassle during peak season – I’d budget for that if you’re renting a car – but honestly, once you’re settled in this area, you barely need one. The bus system actually works pretty well from here, and everything’s walkable if you don’t mind a little humidity. Check-in was surprisingly smooth when I stayed; none of that resort fee nonsense that some places spring on you, though don’t expect concierge-level service either. It’s more of a “here’s your key, the ice machine’s on every floor, have a great stay” kind of place. Which, after dealing with overly complicated resort procedures elsewhere, felt refreshingly straightforward.

  Location just 2 blocks from the beach and the Main Street in Waikiki. Hot tubs and pool on location. High floor give a great view of the ocean. Nice sized rooms! Staff was friendly and helped us switch to a better room when the original assigned one didn’t meet expectations.

  Close to the Beach and staff receptionist name Clint very helpful ..we arrived early at the hotel and my room was already available he let me and family to check in early

  First rm we looked at was bad carpet was musty, shower head real rusted out, balcony door lock wouldn’t lock. I went down stairs and let them know they were real good about it, I looked at another rm and that was much nicer we took it. But no luggage rack, no alarm clock, other than that it was ok. Cliff was such a good host.
