Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about the Aston Mahana when I first pulled up? It’s actually tucked away from the main Kaanapali Beach Resort chaos, which honestly makes all the difference. While everyone’s fighting for parking at the Whaler’s Village or dealing with the Hyatt crowds, you’re sort of in this quieter pocket that still puts you right on one of Maui’s best stretches of sand.

The thing about this place – and I mean this in the best way – is that it feels more like a well-maintained condo complex than your typical resort hotel. The units are spacious (we’re talking full kitchens, not those sad little mini-fridges), and most have these sweeping ocean views that honestly never get old. I spent way too many mornings just standing on the lanai with coffee, watching the early surfers and trying to spot whales during season. The trade winds actually work in your favor here too – our unit stayed naturally cool most of the day, which saved us from cranking the AC constantly like we usually do in Hawaii.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the island beyond just the tourist spots. The front desk guy – I think his name was Keoni – steered us toward this little shave ice place in Lahaina that we never would’ve found otherwise, and suggested hitting Napili Bay early in the morning before the rental car crowds descend. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience real Maui, not just the Instagram version. The property itself is well-kept without being stuffy – the pool area gets lively but not obnoxious, and the direct beach access means you can actually find a decent spot on the sand if you head out by 8 AM. Parking was never an issue either, which if you’ve spent time in Kaanapali, you know that’s basically a minor miracle. My only real gripe? The WiFi gets a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but honestly, that might’ve been a blessing in disguise – forced us to actually unplug and enjoy those incredible Maui sunsets.

The location and view are exceptional, and it was a quiet part of Kaanapali Beach, which I liked. The furnishings were also great. We were upgraded to a 2BR unit on the end at no additional charge, which was a great surprise. We were so close to the ocean that we could see the sea turtles playing in the surf and whales off the coast.

  • Jagan from United States (9/10)

The property is great as advertised. Its located next to the beach, the kaanapali beach board walk is right next to the hotel which is great for morning runs/walks or access to the beach anytime of the day. The room had great views, we saw turtles and whales (at a distance) from our balcony. The kitchen was well equiped and had everything we needed (only utensils and cutlery). The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall we had an amazing stay.
