You know what? The Aston Waikiki Circle Hotel is one of those places that surprises you – and I mean that in the best way possible. When I first walked up to this round building (yeah, it’s actually circular, hence the name), I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot. But honestly, sometimes the unassuming places end up being exactly what you need.

The thing about this hotel is that it gets Waikiki right without trying too hard. You’re close enough to hear the ocean – actually hear it, not just glimpse it between high-rises – but far enough from the Kalakaua Avenue circus that you can actually sleep at night. I’ve stayed at those beachfront towers where tour groups start gathering at 6 AM, and trust me, this is better. The circular design means most rooms have at least some kind of view, even if it’s just a slice of Diamond Head peeking between buildings. My room faced inland, which I thought would be disappointing, but you catch these incredible mountain views that most tourists never bother looking at.

The staff here actually remembers your name after day two, which is pretty rare in Waikiki these days. Check-in was smooth – no weird resort fees or surprise charges that some places spring on you. The pool area is small but never felt crowded, probably because half the guests are out exploring anyway. And here’s something I really appreciated: the elevators are fast. Sounds silly, but when you’re on the 12th floor and running late for a sunset dinner, it matters. The rooms themselves are clean and functional – not Instagram-worthy, but everything works and the AC is solid (crucial in Hawaii, obviously). I mean, you’re not coming to Honolulu to hang out in your room anyway, right? Though I will say the beds are surprisingly comfortable, and after long days hiking or beach-hopping, that’s what counts. The location puts you within walking distance of pretty much everything – Waikiki Beach, decent restaurants that aren’t total tourist traps, and those ABC Stores when you inevitably forget sunscreen. That 8.1 rating makes perfect sense to me because this place delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.
