Hotel Description
You know what? Belle Vue Waimea B&B is one of those places that immediately makes sense once you’re there. I mean, Waimea’s got this whole cowboy town vibe going on – it’s actually pretty cool how different it feels from the rest of the Big Island. Most people rush through on their way to Mauna Kea or the beaches, but honestly, staying up here gives you this completely different perspective on Hawaii that you won’t get anywhere else.
The B&B itself has that authentic local feel that’s getting harder to find these days. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort – it’s just a solid, comfortable place run by people who actually live here and know the area inside and out. The rooms are clean and cozy, nothing flashy, but you’ll sleep well (and trust me, you’ll want to sleep well because there’s so much to do around here). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re up in paniolo country, so instead of ocean waves, you’ve got this peaceful ranch land silence that’s honestly pretty magical. The mornings are crisp too, which is wild when you remember you’re still in Hawaii.
Here’s what makes staying in Waimea special though – you’re right in the heart of Big Island ranch country, and Belle Vue puts you close to everything that matters up here. You can hit up some incredible local spots for breakfast (the coffee up here is insane), check out the Saturday farmers market if you time it right, and you’re perfectly positioned for day trips. Parker Ranch is right there if you’re into the cowboy history thing, and honestly, driving through those rolling green hills never gets old. Plus – and this is key – you’re way closer to Mauna Kea than if you stayed down on the coast, so those sunset or stargazing trips are totally doable without the brutal drive. The owners know all the good spots too, so don’t be shy about asking for recommendations. They pointed me toward this little road that had some of the best views I’ve ever seen, and I never would’ve found it on my own.
Look, it’s not luxury accommodations, but that 8.4 rating makes total sense when you factor in the location and the genuine local experience. The value is solid, especially considering how expensive everything else gets on the Big Island. If you’re the type who wants to experience a different side of Hawaii – less touristy beaches, more rolling pastures and genuine island culture – Belle Vue Waimea is actually a pretty smart choice. Just pack a light jacket because those upcountry mornings can surprise you.

It was really nice that we were able to drop our bags early before heading back out. The place was already set up. Great having kitchen, living space and excellent location! Super nice that they provide continental breakfast and coffee bar!
Grant from Australia (9/10)
The location and views were excellent, with the mountains/volcanos, sea, countryside and animals. Also a generous size for us. Waimea has good facilities, shops and restaurants that are handy, and it’s not that far to the coast and other attractions of the Big Island.

The penthouse is very spacious. Beautiful views of surrounding hills, ocean & Mauna Kea in the morning before the clouds hide the snow caps & observatory. Super quiet & peaceful. Christian was the perfect host.
