Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Big Island Lunapule Condos 205B – it’s one of those places that doesn’t look like much online, but once you’re there, you get why people keep coming back. The name’s a bit of a mouthful (Lunapule means “Monday” in Hawaiian, which honestly made me chuckle), and yeah, it’s a 3-star spot that feels pretty much exactly like what you’d expect from a 3-star spot. But here’s the thing – sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re exploring the Big Island and don’t want to blow half your budget on a fancy resort.
The condo itself is, well, a condo. You’ve got your basic kitchen setup that actually works (I mean, the coffee maker was ancient but it made decent coffee), a living area that’s seen better days but has this lived-in comfort to it, and – this was actually pretty great – a lanai where you can sit with your morning brew and pretend you’re a local for a minute. The furniture’s that classic island style that screams “we bought this in 2005 and it’s staying until it falls apart,” but honestly? After a day of hiking around Volcanoes National Park or snorkeling at some ridiculous beach, you’re just happy to have a place to crash that doesn’t cost $400 a night. The AC works when it wants to, which on the Big Island usually means you’ll be fine with the trade winds anyway.
What I actually loved about this place was how it felt like staying at someone’s vacation home rather than a sterile hotel room. There were local guidebooks scattered around (some hilariously outdated), beach chairs you could borrow, and the kind of random kitchen gadgets that suggest real people actually live here sometimes. The 7.0 rating makes sense – it’s not going to win any design awards, and the WiFi can be spotty when it’s windy, but it’s clean, functional, and has that authentic Big Island vibe that you can’t manufacture. Plus, you’re not dealing with resort crowds or having to make dinner reservations three days in advance. Sometimes you just want to grab some poke from the local spot, bring it home, and eat it while watching the sunset from your own little slice of paradise – even if that slice has slightly dated tile work and a shower that takes forever to heat up.

I enjoyed the location, it was very close to the beach and close to a bunch or restaurants and stores. The condo was very nice and spacious.
