Blue Hawaii Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Blue Hawaii, you immediately get that relaxed Big Island vibe — it’s not trying too hard to impress, which honestly makes it more appealing. The four-star property sits right in Kailua-Kona, and I mean, the location alone had me sold before I even saw my room. There’s something about the way the staff greets you that feels genuinely warm, not that rehearsed hotel politeness you get at some places. The lobby has this understated Hawaiian charm that doesn’t feel touristy or overdone.
Location & Getting Around
You know what really sets this place apart? The location is absolutely stellar — recent guests have been rating it 8.8 out of 10, and I totally get why. You’re walking distance from Kailua-Kona’s historic downtown area, which means easy access to Ali’i Drive’s restaurants and shops without dealing with the hassle of driving everywhere. The free private parking is actually a huge deal here — anyone who’s tried to find parking in Kona during busy season will appreciate this. I found myself using the hotel as a perfect home base for exploring the island, then coming back to decompress.
The Rooms
My room had that clean, modern Hawaiian aesthetic without going overboard on the tropical theme. The space felt thoughtfully designed — not cramped like some island hotels can be, with enough room to actually unpack and settle in. What I really appreciated were the little touches that showed someone was thinking about guest comfort, like proper lighting for reading and outlets where you actually need them. The view from my window gave me glimpses of the ocean between buildings, which was a nice bonus I wasn’t expecting.
Perfect for Couples
I can see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about the atmosphere that feels intimate without being stuffy — maybe it’s the way the property is laid out, or how the staff seems to understand when to be helpful and when to give you space. The location makes it easy to stroll down to the waterfront for sunset walks, and you’re close enough to some really good dinner spots that you don’t need to plan elaborate transportation. It strikes that perfect balance between being in the heart of things but still feeling like a peaceful retreat.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9 out of 10 rating, Blue Hawaii clearly knows what it’s doing. It’s that rare hotel that manages to feel both polished and relaxed — upscale enough that you feel well taken care of, but not so formal that you can’t just be yourself. The combination of the prime Kailua-Kona location, thoughtful amenities like that free parking, and staff who genuinely seem to care about your experience creates something special. You’ll find yourself recommending it to friends, which is honestly the best test of any hotel.
Apartments in Hawaii suit families with full kitchens, easy beach access, and evening strolls along the Waikiki shoreline.
