The location is honestly spectacular, and I get why couples rate it so highly (apparently 9.3 out of 10, which makes total sense). You’re literally in Volcano — not some generic resort area, but the actual community where locals live and work near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I mean, you can walk to Kilauea from here, and the whole area has this misty, otherworldly vibe that changes throughout the day. The parking situation is refreshingly simple too — just pull up and you’re done, no circling blocks or paying fees.

The Accommodations

My room had character without being quirky for the sake of it. The furnishings feel purposeful rather than fancy, which works perfectly for this setting. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stays — you get the sounds of the rainforest instead of traffic or other guests stomping around. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at mountain lodges), and there’s enough space to spread out your hiking gear without feeling cramped.

The restaurant on-site serves food that feels connected to the place rather than generic hotel fare. I had some of the best local fish I’ve tried on the Big Island, and the staff clearly knows their suppliers and ingredients. Breakfast especially hits the spot when you’re planning a day of exploring — substantial enough for hiking but not so heavy you feel sluggish on the trails. The whole dining experience feels relaxed, like you’re eating at a friend’s place rather than a hotel dining room.

  Check in was easy, we arrived at night and had no trouble reaching the property. The room was amazing, very spacious with even a small kitchen, and wonderful bathroom with a cave-style double shower. In the middle of the lush green surroundings, it was the best stay of our whole trip.

  Very cute garden. Good location for visiting Volcanoes National Park. Our room was amazing—I think we may have been upgraded—with a separate parking spot, and thematic bathroom. Really special place to stay that felt fancy but not in a sterile, resort-y way that I don’t like. Hope to be back in the future!
