Club Wyndham Kona Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, Club Wyndham Kona surprised me in the best way possible. This three-star resort sits right on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona, and you know what? The location alone makes it worth considering. I mean, you’re literally steps from the ocean and walking distance to all the shops and restaurants that make this part of the Big Island so special. The property has that relaxed Hawaiian vibe without trying too hard — it’s comfortable and unpretentious.
The Location Advantage
What really struck me about this place is how perfectly positioned it is for exploring Kona. You can walk to the historic Kailua Pier in about five minutes, and there’s something magical about starting your morning with coffee while watching the fishing boats head out. The snorkeling at nearby Kahalu’u Beach Park is incredible — I actually saw more sea turtles there than anywhere else on the island. Plus, you’ve got easy access to the Ironman finish line area, which is pretty cool even if you’re not into triathlons.
Rooms and Comfort
The room I stayed in was genuinely comfortable — and I’m someone who usually has trouble sleeping in hotels. The beds here are actually as good as advertised, which isn’t something I say lightly. My unit had a partial ocean view, and while it wasn’t the most luxurious setup I’ve ever experienced, everything worked well and felt clean. The air conditioning was solid (crucial in Hawaii), and there was enough space to spread out after long days of exploring the island.
Amenities That Matter
The swimming pool area became my go-to spot in the late afternoons — it’s nothing fancy, but it’s exactly what you need after a day of hiking or beach time. The hot tub was particularly nice for sore muscles after tackling some of the island’s more challenging trails. There’s a fitness center if you’re motivated enough to work out on vacation (I wasn’t), and the parking situation is refreshingly stress-free — no hunting for spots or paying extra fees. That might sound minor, but anyone who’s dealt with Kona’s limited parking will appreciate it.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a resort where you’ll be blown away by fancy amenities or over-the-top service, but that’s sort of the point. What Club Wyndham Kona does well is give you a solid, comfortable base for exploring one of Hawaii’s most interesting areas without breaking the bank. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping guests have a good time, and the whole place has this easygoing atmosphere that matches the Big Island perfectly. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something romantic about those sunset views from Alii Drive, and you’re close enough to everything that you can be spontaneous about dinner plans or evening walks along the waterfront.
Visitors often choose Hawaii apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Pacific paradise.

Great location in a calm area a bit outside the city but remaining at walking distance (Even though having a car is highly recommended). I travelled there for the Ironman and being on the course and at walking distance of everything made it very practical for me and my support crew! Staff was also very friendly and helpful!
I would definitely book here again if I ever come back to Kona!Gregory from United States (9/10)
