Honestly, when I first saw “Country Cottage in Papa Bay” on the booking site, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but this place completely surprised me in the best way possible. It’s one of those spots that feels like you’ve stumbled onto something special that the big hotel chains just can’t replicate. The cottage sits tucked away from the main tourist strips, and you know what? That’s exactly what makes it perfect.

The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way the morning light filters through these oversized windows, or how everything feels deliberately unpolished in that authentic cottage way. The floors creak a little (in a charming way, not an annoying one), and the rooms have this lived-in comfort that actually makes you want to kick off your shoes and stay awhile. I mean, with a 9.4 rating, I expected it to be decent, but this felt more like staying at a friend’s really well-appointed beach house than a typical hotel experience. The owners – and you can tell there are actual owners involved here, not some corporate management company – have managed to nail that sweet spot between rustic charm and having everything you actually need.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in Papa Bay itself. You’re close enough to hear the water, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the chaos of beachfront crowds. The cottage feels sort of nestled into the landscape rather than dropped on top of it, if that makes sense. Parking is straightforward (thank god, because nothing ruins a vacation like circling around looking for a spot), and the whole check-in process was refreshingly human – no rushing, no corporate script, just genuine conversation about the area and what’s worth seeing. I’ll be honest, the place isn’t flashy or Instagram-perfect in that overly curated way, but that’s precisely why it works. It’s got character, real character, and after staying in too many cookie-cutter places that all blur together, this cottage actually felt memorable. The kind of place where you find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

  It’s so important to have proper communication when travelling and I had that with Arthur (the owner). He was quick to respond and there to help anyway he could.
  He was kind enough to talk about the area and take me on a tour, which I enjoyed immensely.
  
  The tiny home has everything you need and is very comfortable. There’s clean drinking water, an equipped kitchen, an outdoor barbecue and other essentials (like a mini portable washer, beach towels and over the shoulder mini cooler) … the home’s very clean and comfortable and even the resident geckos are super friendly! I found they put a lot of thought into little details inside the cottage. The night sky is unbelievably beautiful and you also have an ocean view in a quiet and safe neighbourhood…I’m looking forward to coming back!

  Among the many things to like about this property was that it was in a safe location, secluded, with a nice view of the ocean. The privacy and comfort that we had was exceptional. I/we would highly recommend for anyone seeking a little different experience than that of a traditional hotel room or resort. Mahalo!

  The tiny house is beautiful, well set and private. Everything is clean and functional. Surrounded by nature and great vue of the ocean. Host were friendly and discreet, easy access to the house and communication. A great choice if you don’t want to be in a resort like accommodation.
