The hotel sits in this planned community that still feels pretty new, with wide streets and that slightly suburban vibe that makes you forget you’re on a tropical island until you step outside and get hit with that trade wind.

The suites here are genuinely spacious (not just hotel-marketing spacious), and I mean that living room area actually feels separate from the bedroom, which is clutch if you’re traveling with kids or just need space to spread out. What really sold me though was the evening manager’s reception – yeah, I know every Embassy Suites does this, but the bartender here, this local guy named Keoni, makes a mean mai tai and actually knows the difference between tourists who want the Instagram version and people who want something that tastes good. The free breakfast is solid too, though it gets pretty busy around 8 AM when all the families with young kids descend like locusts.

Here’s what you should know if you’re thinking about staying here – you’re about 30 minutes from Waikiki, but you’re also like 10 minutes from some of the best local food on the island. There’s this poke place in the Kapolei Commons that tourists never find, and you can hit Aulani (the Disney resort) without dealing with their insane parking situation. The hotel’s shuttle service is decent, but honestly, you’ll want a rental car out here. Parking is free and easy, which already puts it ahead of anything in Honolulu proper. The pool area gets some airplane noise from the flight path, but it’s not terrible, and the hot tub stays open until 10 PM, which is later than most places. One small thing – the elevators are kind of slow, but the staff genuinely seems happy to be there, which you don’t always get at chain hotels. The housekeeping team does this thing where they fold your towels into little animals, and look, it’s cheesy, but my kids lost their minds over it every day.
