Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i – I mean, you hear about these ultra-luxury places on Hawaii’s most exclusive island, but sometimes the reality doesn’t match the hype. Well, this place actually delivers on every promise and then some.

The thing about Lana’i is that it’s not like Maui or Oahu where you’re constantly reminded you’re at a resort. Here, you feel like you’ve stumbled onto some private estate that just happens to have incredible service. The drive up from the tiny airport (and I mean tiny – one runway, no jet bridges) takes you through these otherworldly landscapes that look more like the Scottish Highlands than tropical Hawaii. Then suddenly you’re at this resort that feels completely integrated into the natural surroundings, not plopped on top of them. The architecture is understated in that way only really expensive places can pull off – no gaudy fountains or marble everywhere, just clean lines and materials that actually belong in this environment.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the island, not just the resort property. Our concierge – and I usually avoid concierges because they always push the same tourist traps – actually steered us away from the obvious snorkeling spots and toward this incredible tide pool area that locals call Shark’s Cove (don’t worry, no sharks). The room itself was spacious without feeling cavernous, and you know what I loved most? The lanai actually caught the trade winds perfectly, so we barely used the air conditioning. Small detail, but it made such a difference for that authentic island feeling. The bathroom – okay, this sounds ridiculous, but the shower had this rainfall head that somehow felt like actual rain, not that aggressive hotel spray that leaves you feeling beaten up.

I’ll be honest, the dining is where some of these resort places lose me with their overwrought fusion menus, but the main restaurant here gets it right. They’re doing elevated Hawaiian regional cuisine without making it precious – think perfectly grilled fish with ingredients they’re actually growing on the island, not flying in from three continents. The breakfast buffet (yeah, I know, buffets at fine dining places are usually sad) was legitimately impressive, especially if you time it right before 8 AM when it’s not crowded with families. Pro tip: skip the poolside lunch and drive down to Lana’i City for poke at Blue Ginger Cafe – it’s where the resort staff actually eat, and it’s about a third of the price.

The pool area never felt overcrowded, probably because there are only 90-something rooms total, and half the guests seem to spend their days off-property anyway exploring the island’s crazy-beautiful Shipwreck Beach or taking the ferry over to Maui for day trips. That 9.4 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, just doing the luxury-in-nature thing really, really well. If you’re looking for Vegas-style entertainment or shopping, this isn’t your place. But if you want to feel like you’ve discovered some secret Hawaiian hideaway that just happens to have phenomenal service and gorgeous accommodations, this is exactly where you want to be.

Apartments in Hawaii provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional farmers markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Hawaiian culinary traditions.

Everything was amazing. The staff, the restaurants, the food, the rooms and the grounds were absolutely incredible. I recommend taking the trip if you want to relax and get away from the big city life like the other islands. It was such a magical hotel and island.

The hotel is stunning! Beautiful views, good restaurants, wonderful spa, stylish design, awesome location etc. We stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon and it was really perfect. Note that Lana’i is a small island, so you can explore for maybe 1 day (they got us a car for 1 day) but then you will have seen it so you will spend a lot of time in the resort.

The facility was outstanding and we are also glad we went up to see sensei, as both are needed to be experienced as they are truly amazing. We love snorkeling on the beach, sitting by the pool, all the restaurant options, playing pool, And both the people we met and the people that worked at the hotel could not have been friendlier. We will be back! Only thing we wish different was the ability to have more availability so we could’ve gone to the observatory
