Hale-Hoola B & B Overview

You know what really surprised me about Hale-Hoola B & B? It’s one of those places that immediately feels like home, but somehow better than your actual home. I mean, when you pull up — and yes, there’s actually decent parking which is honestly a relief — you’re looking at this beautifully maintained property that manages to feel both welcoming and slightly elegant without being stuffy about it.

The owners clearly know what they’re doing here. I’ve stayed at plenty of B&Bs where you feel like you’re walking on eggshells, but this place strikes that perfect balance between being well-run and genuinely relaxed. The morning routine is something else entirely – and I’m not usually a breakfast person, honestly. But there’s this whole ritual that happens where you can smell the coffee brewing from upstairs, and by the time you make it down, everything’s laid out just right. Not too fancy, not too casual. The kind of setup where you actually want to linger over your meal instead of rushing out to start your day. What really got me was how they remember little details – like, the second morning they already knew I preferred my coffee black and that I’m weird about fruit touching my other food.

The rooms themselves are thoughtfully done without feeling overly designed, if that makes sense. You get the impression someone actually slept in these beds before deciding they were comfortable enough for guests. The linens are the kind you want to ask where they bought them, and there’s this attention to lighting that makes everything feel warm in the evenings. I’m usually pretty sensitive to noise, but even though you can hear some activity from other parts of the house, it’s more comforting than disruptive – sort of like staying at a favorite relative’s place. The WiFi actually works reliably (shocking, I know), and there are enough outlets in practical places that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the bedside lamp. Honestly, that 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s the kind of place where small touches add up to something that feels much more expensive than it probably is, and where the genuine warmth of the hospitality makes you want to extend your stay just to have another one of those leisurely morning conversations over coffee.

My second time staying here, couldn't get into my timeshare until Sunday but cheaper to fly Friday! Found this gem last time! Gorgeous view of ocean! Super clean, comfy bed, and breakfast so delicious!! Especially the fruit fresh from their trees! Hosts lovely people and delightful to chat with!

  • Vitali from United States (10/10)

Absolutely amazing. The owners should put better photos on Booking.com. All 4 rooms have a terrific ocean view, a tropic forest behind a window, endless songs of Hawaiian birds in the evening and in the morning! The room was clean and nice, the lanai was beautiful, and the owners were very nice people. Breakfast was great, homemade food that the owners make for their guests every morning. Having your breakfast on the huge balcony on the second floor surrounded by tropical trees canopies with myriads of birds was amazing. Location was also convenient for us as we were exploring the entire island. There is a large supermarket in 15 min drive from the house.

First of all, many thanks to the hosts! They were very kind, provided a lot of information and trained snorkelling equipment. Excellent breakfast on the balcony overlooking the ocean. We received a map and explanations about the area. On the last day, we had to leave early in the morning, so they prepared an excellent breakfast for us to take on the road! We really enjoyed our stay there.
The location is outside the city, but very close. Entrance and exit to the drive way is a bit problematic – straight to the road. Beyond that – we would stay there again.

It's a nice place to stay and enjoy the nature setting of its location. There are three rooms, each with a large lanai with views of the ocean and lush vegetation. They are great spots to watch the sunset. There is a couch and two comfortable chairs plus a dining table and two chairs on the lanai. There is also a refrigerator there.
In the common area there is a microwave, some dishes, can opener, tea and a tea kettle and utensils.
Beach chairs, boogie boards, mats, beach towels, a beach umbrella and snorkeling equipment are available there to borrow.
The ensuite bathroom has a shower that is fine. Shampoo, body wash and conditioner are all provided, as well as liquid hand soap at the sink.
The room itself is small and simply furnished, but with the lanai and the common area this is not a problem at all.
There is a ceiling fan and plenty of [screened in] ventilation so the temperature was comfortable.
There didn't seem to be any mosquitoes and we sat on the lanai at night with shorts on and no insect repellent.
The hosts and their dog are nice. Carl gives you a map of the area and gives a detailed description of places to see and things to do. It might be a good idea to record it to retain all of the information.
Breakfasts is served at 8:00 AM and they are very good. We were there six nights and the breakfasts were never the same. They always included fruit. They have several papaya trees that provide some of the fruit.
The breakfast is served up on the top deck with excellent views and nice plants. There are two bird feeders that Carl fills up each morning and it's nice to watch the activity while you eat. Very many Java Sparrows (an introduced species) dominate the feeders- jockeying with each other for access. Saffron Finches and Cardinals also make appearances and sometimes manage to grab some food.
We also had beautiful Gold Dust Day Geckos come onto our table at breakfast.

  • Luisa from Austria (10/10)

Very nice little B&B with perfect hosts! The Breakfast was amazing.

  • Jane from Australia (10/10)

Lovely, quiet, overlooking the lush vegetation & the sea.
Friendly hosts. Lovely breakfast on the verandah where you can see the view & watch the bird life.
Room also had a lovely private verandah.
Great location for getting to Two Step & nearby heiau.

  • Carlo from Italy (10/10)

We were looking for a quiet place surrounded by the nature. We found it completely. The room is small but it has a lanai that can be used as living or dining room. Home made (very good!) breakfast is served on a terrace on the upper floor with a great view on the nature and the sea. The hosts are very kind and familiar.

  • Daniel from Germany (10/10)

    Everything perfect.

  • Tunga from Germany (10/10)

This apartment surprised us in every way. It is close to the main road to Kona, but you do not notice it. The place is a real little remote idyll with a family atmosphere. The apartment is in a very quiet location. From the balcony you have a magnificent view of the sea and the garden with lots of farm animals and birds. You can borrow snorkeling equipment for free, and the breakfast on the large terrace is really good. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. There is a small grocery store within walking distance. It is about 15 minutes by car to Kona. We had a very nice, relaxing stay.
