Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hale Kai O’Kihei 302 – honestly, the name made it sound fancier than I thought a 3-star place would be. But this little condo unit in Kihei actually surprised me in the best way. It’s got that authentic local vibe that’s getting harder to find in Maui these days, tucked away from the resort madness but still close enough to everything you actually want to do.

The thing about staying here is you’re really living like someone who belongs in Kihei, not just passing through. I mean, you’re walking distance from some of the island’s best beach spots that most tourists completely miss – and trust me, that matters when you’re trying to beat the crowds to watch sunrise at Haleakala and still want a decent beach day afterward. The unit itself feels lived-in in a good way, like someone’s favorite vacation spot rather than a sterile hotel room. There’s actually character here – real Hawaiian touches that feel genuine, not the mass-produced tiki stuff you see everywhere else. The kitchen’s properly stocked too, which saved me a fortune since we all know how expensive eating out gets in Maui (especially when you discover that little poke place down the road and become slightly obsessed).

What really sold me on this place was how it sits in the neighborhood – you’re genuinely staying somewhere that locals call home, which means better food recommendations from neighbors, actual parking spaces that don’t cost extra, and none of that weird resort bubble feeling. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Honestly, for the price point and the authentic Kihei experience, I’d definitely book it again – just maybe not during whale season when everything gets completely packed and you can barely find a spot on the beach before 7 AM.

Visitors often choose Hawaii apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Pacific paradise.

Love hearing the waves crashing on the beach. Nice to have a balcony overlooking the ocean. Everything worked perfectly with no issues. Great water pressure

The location right on uncrowded South Kehei beach is superb. The grounds and surrounding area are very well maintained by Johnny who is a gem. The property is on the third floor, so getting your luggage up two flights of stairs can be hard work if, like us you are island hopping for 30 days. Everything was clean and the condo is well equipped. Walking along the beach each morning was divine and watching the sun set every evening was an amazing bonus.

I loved pretty much everything about it. it was older than I pictured so things like the drain in the bathroom sink didn’t have a stopper, and there was hard water buildup around the faucets and shower head. Just needed to be cleaned better I think, but all in all the condo was nice. the sofa could be replaced. it’s not that comfy. definitely needs new throw pillows. The bed pillows need replacing too. the extra pillows in the closet were all stained and gross. I didn’t touch those.
it sounds like I didn’t like it but I really did! It’s just little things that I thought would be better quality and nicer weren’t. the view of the ocean made up for everything. That sunset view every night was magical. Free parking and wifi also a huge plus!

The location is great. We had a car, so were driving to many places we wanted to see. But even without a car this is a great place, superb views over the ocean. The beds were comfortable (also the sofa bed). Some of the interior is dated but still overall excellent value for money.
