Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Hale Kai O’Kihei 317 when I first pulled up – I mean, it’s technically a 3-star place, but honestly, that rating doesn’t tell the whole story. This condo complex sits right in the heart of Kihei, and once you get past the somewhat dated exterior (we’re talking classic Maui architecture from probably the ’80s), you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty solid.
The thing about staying here is that you’re actually living like a local for a bit. Unit 317 has this lived-in feel that I really appreciated – not fancy, but everything works and the lanai faces west so you get these incredible sunset views over the Pacific. The kitchen’s fully equipped, which saved me a fortune since eating out in Kihei every night can get pretty pricey. I actually ended up cooking breakfast most mornings while watching the early surfers at Kalama Park, which is literally a two-minute walk away. Speaking of walking, you can hit Foodland for groceries, grab coffee at Java Kai, or duck into any of those local lunch spots along South Kihei Road without needing your car. The beach access is what really sold me though – you’ve got several beach parks within easy walking distance, and honestly, the snorkeling at Kamaole Beach III (about a five-minute stroll) is better than some of the spots tourists pay big money to visit.
What I really liked about this place is how quiet it gets at night. Yeah, you’ll hear the occasional car on South Kihei Road, but it’s nothing like those resort areas where there’s constant noise. The building itself is pretty chill – mostly longer-term visitors and some locals, so there’s none of that party atmosphere you sometimes get with vacation rentals. The pool area is small but clean, and I found myself hanging out there in the late afternoons when the trade winds pick up. Check-in was straightforward, parking was never an issue (huge plus in Kihei), and the unit had decent AC for those few really hot days. I’ll be honest – the furnishings aren’t going to win any design awards, and the bathroom could use some updating, but everything’s clean and functional. For the price point and that location, you’re getting excellent value. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience Maui without the resort bubble, and you don’t mind a place that’s more “real Hawaii” than “Instagram perfect,” this spot really delivers.
Hotels in Hawaii offer guests the perfect blend of tropical luxury and modern comfort, with many featuring surfing concierge services and traditional Hawaiian spa treatments to enhance the authentic island experience.

Nice location on a sandy beach. The king-size bed is very comfortable. I liked having a TV in the bedroom. The kitchen was very well equipped. The condo’s air conditioner is large and does a fine job of keeping the unit cool when needed.

The location of the property is great! It’s right on the ocean, you can see the sunset from the balcony. The check-in was smooth. The communication was proactive. They also checked in the next morning to see if we had any issues. The kitchen was well stocked. You have a Safeway at 4 minute drive. The sofa and the bed were comfortable.
