Holua Resort Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Holua Resort for the first time, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star property — but this place surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on Kaleiopapa Street in Kailua-Kona, and you know what struck me immediately? The laid-back vibe that feels authentically Hawaiian without trying too hard. The staff greeted me with genuine aloha spirit, not the rehearsed kind you get at some of the bigger resorts down the coast.
The Room Experience
My room was simple but thoughtfully designed — clean lines, comfortable furnishings, and those beds everyone raves about in the reviews? They’re not kidding. I actually slept better here than I have at places costing twice as much. The air conditioning works perfectly (crucial in Kona heat), and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling cramped. What I appreciated most was the attention to details — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you want to sleep in.
Location and Activities
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience the real Kona without being stuck in the tourist bubble. You’re close enough to walk to local spots that visitors often miss, but still just minutes from the main attractions along Ali’i Drive. The resort has a tennis court that’s well-maintained (I played a few sets in the early morning before it got too hot), and there’s a fitness center that covers the basics. If you’re into golf, there are a couple of decent courses within a short drive — the staff can point you toward the best options based on your skill level.
Practical Perks
Free parking might not sound exciting, but trust me, after dealing with $30-a-night parking fees at other Hawaiian hotels, it’s a relief. The lot is right on-site, so you’re not hauling luggage across multiple blocks. I mean, it’s one of those small things that just makes your stay smoother. The resort also has laundry facilities that actually work (another small miracle), which came in handy during my week-long stay.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Holua Resort apart isn’t flashy amenities or over-the-top service — it’s the fact that everything just works well. Couples seem to particularly love it here, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about the quieter setting, away from the crowds but still connected to everything Kona offers. The value is exceptional too; you’re getting quality accommodations and that coveted Kona location without the premium price tag. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re experiencing Hawaii, not just visiting a hotel that happens to be in Hawaii.
The concierge service in Hawaii can arrange exclusive volcano helicopter tours, secure reservations at oceanfront luau restaurants, and organize personalized snorkeling adventures with marine biologists.

George from Australia (9/10)
We had use of a two bedroom condominium. It was great. Clean, tidy, modern. The only issue is the noisy plumbing. Parking was onsite and very adequate. The facility had pools, tennis courts, BBQ availability. The staff were great. Friendly and informative.
