Hotel Description
You know what hit me first about Holualoa Inn? The silence. I mean, you’re up in the hills above Kailua-Kona, maybe fifteen minutes from all the tourist chaos, and it’s just… quiet. The kind of quiet where you actually hear the coffee plants rustling and maybe a gecko chirping somewhere in the distance. This is proper Big Island coffee country – you’re literally surrounded by working farms, and honestly, waking up to that view across the slopes toward the ocean never got old during my stay.
The place feels more like staying at a really well-appointed friend’s house than a typical hotel. There’s only six rooms, which I didn’t realize when I booked, but it turned out to be perfect. The owners – and I actually met them, not some random desk clerk – clearly know what they’re doing. My room had this massive four-poster bed that somehow didn’t feel pretentious, and the bathroom was one of those deep soaking tub situations that I definitely took advantage of after hiking around Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau earlier that day. The whole building has this plantation-era vibe but without feeling like a museum, you know?
What really sealed it for me was breakfast the next morning. They serve it on this wraparound lanai, and I’m not kidding when I say you can see from Mauna Loa all the way down to the coast. The coffee – obviously – was incredible, and it’s actually grown right there in Holualoa. I ended up talking story with another guest for like two hours, which never happens to me usually. The town itself is tiny, maybe a five-minute walk to browse the art galleries and that little general store, but it feels like the real Hawaii in a way that the resort areas down by the water just… don’t. You’ll want a rental car for sure since you’re up in the hills, but honestly, I found myself just wanting to hang around the property most afternoons anyway. The pool area faces west, so sunset drinks became a serious daily ritual. It’s pricey, I won’t lie, but after staying at those massive resorts on other trips where you feel like cattle being herded around, this felt worth every penny.
Visitors often choose Hawaii apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Pacific paradise.

Breakfast was always a treat. They changed it up on a daily basis, but everything was so fresh and delicious. Definitely one of the highlights of our day!

Sehr freundliche, individuelle Betreuung. Zum Frühstück gibt es jeden Tag etwas anderes und das Frühstück wird serviert. Die Anlage ist wirklich sehr schön und der riesige Garten ein Bijou mit vielen lauschigen Plätzchen zum verweilen.
