You’re literally steps from the pool area, and there’s this private lanai that opens right up to the resort’s tropical landscaping – no elevator waits when you’re hauling beach gear or groceries from Times Supermarket down in Lahaina. The kitchen is actually functional too, not like those sad hotel kitchenettes with two plates and a broken can opener. I found myself cooking breakfast most mornings because, well, why spend $18 on resort pancakes when you can grab fresh papayas from the Farmers Market and make your own feast while watching the sunrise hit the water?

What really sets this place apart is how it sits within the whole Honua Kai setup. The resort’s not trying to be flashy – it’s more like they took the best parts of old Hawaii hospitality and mixed it with modern comfort. The pools are never crowded (probably because most people head straight to the beach), and that oceanfront location means you’re looking at some of the best snorkeling spots on the island right from your lanai. Duke’s Beach House is right there when you don’t feel like cooking, and honestly, their fish tacos are worth the splurge. The staff remembers your name after day two, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re trying to actually relax on vacation. Parking was never an issue either – I know that sounds boring, but anyone who’s dealt with Lahaina’s parking situation will appreciate having a guaranteed spot. The only thing I’d mention is that the trade winds can get pretty strong in the afternoons, so if you’re planning to spend time on the lanai, maybe bring a light jacket for evening cocktails. But really, that’s island life – and after a few days, you’ll be timing your day around those wind patterns like a local anyway.
