Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Hokulani 509? The fact that you can literally see the ocean from inside the unit – not just from the lanai, but actually from the living room. I mean, most Maui condos claim “ocean view” and you end up squinting through palm trees to catch a sliver of blue, but this place delivers on that promise in a way that honestly surprised me.
The unit itself sits in the Honua Kai complex, which – if you’ve driven along Lower Honokoapiili Road – you’ve definitely seen those sleek towers rising up from Kaanapali Beach. What’s nice about being in the newer section is everything actually works (shocking concept, I know, but you’d be amazed how many older Maui properties have quirky plumbing or temperamental AC). The two bedrooms give you real space to spread out, and both bathrooms are properly sized – none of that cramped resort nonsense where you’re bumping elbows while brushing teeth. The kitchen’s got decent counter space too, which matters when you’re inevitably going to hit Foodland in Lahaina for groceries because, let’s face it, eating out for every meal gets expensive fast.
Location-wise, you’re right in that sweet spot where you can walk to Dukes or Leilani’s without dealing with the Kaanapali Resort crowds, but you’re still close enough to hop over to Whaler’s Village if you need to grab something. The beach access is solid – none of that trekking through three different properties situation. Parking can get a bit tight during peak season (basically December through April), but there’s usually something available if you’re not too picky about walking an extra fifty yards. The complex has that resort-ish feel without the resort prices for everything, which is honestly refreshing. One thing though – the trade winds don’t always reach this unit the way they hit some of the others, so you’ll probably run the AC more than you’d expect. Not a dealbreaker, just something to factor in. Overall, it’s one of those places where the 7.0 rating makes sense – not perfect, but solidly good with that ocean view bonus that makes you feel like you actually scored something special in Maui’s crazy accommodation market.

Breakfast was good, a bit limited at Dukes but multiple places to order, only thing is most of them you couldn’t place order on line. The view was spectacular, very roomy, the furniture is old and starting to look worn, accommodations overall were good. Porter was good as well.
Bed was hard in the master
