Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places on Maui, and Honua Kai’s Konea building – specifically unit 446 – honestly surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a place just feels right the moment you walk in? That’s what happened here. The unit sits perfectly positioned so you’re getting those West Maui mountain views mixed with ocean glimpses, and I mean, the lanai becomes your coffee spot every single morning whether you planned it or not.

What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel like a proper vacation rental but with all the perks of a resort setup. The Konea building is actually the newer tower at Honua Kai, so everything feels fresh – the elevators are quick (trust me, this matters when you’re hauling beach gear), and the hallways don’t have that musty resort smell you sometimes get. Unit 446 specifically has this amazing kitchen setup that actually makes you want to cook, which is saying something because I’m usually all about eating out on vacation. But when you can grab fresh fish from the Farmers Market Maui in Honokowai – just a quick drive up the road – and prepare it while watching the sunset, well, you sort of have to do it at least once. The living space flows really naturally too, none of that awkward furniture arrangement where you’re craning your neck to see the TV.

The location itself is what sealed the deal for me though. You’re right on Kaanapali Beach, but not in the thick of all the resort chaos – it’s more like you found this perfect middle ground. Walking south gets you to all the Kaanapali action if you want it, but honestly, the snorkeling right in front of Honua Kai is some of the best I’ve found on this side of the island. Early mornings are magical here because the water’s so calm and clear, and you’ll see green sea turtles just hanging out like it’s their personal backyard (which, I guess it is). The pool area gets busy during peak hours – around 11am to 3pm – but if you’re strategic about timing, you can have those infinity pool vibes almost to yourself. One thing I really appreciated was how easy parking was; so many Maui places make you stress about where to put your rental car, but this was refreshingly straightforward. The only minor thing is that housekeeping can be a bit hit or miss depending on the day, but the unit itself is maintained really well, so it’s not a deal-breaker by any means.

  The location is great, fantastic partial view of the ocean. (see photos) The resort is lovely, pools are great, and Dukes restaurant is a plus! The condo is very spacious, comfortable and the kitchen was great to have. Parking was easy.
