Hotel Moloka’i Overview

First Impressions

Hotel Moloka’i sits right along Kamehameha V Highway in Kaunakakai, and honestly, it’s exactly what you’d hope for on this quiet island — unpretentious, authentic, and refreshingly low-key. The moment you pull up (free parking, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think), you’ll notice this isn’t your typical resort experience. Instead, it feels more like stumbling upon a well-kept local secret that happens to welcome visitors. The property has that genuine Hawaiian vibe that’s become harder to find elsewhere in the islands.

Location & Island Life

You know what makes this three-star hotel special? It’s positioned perfectly for exploring the real Moloka’i — not some manufactured tourist version of it. Kaunakakai is the island’s main town, which means you’re walking distance from local shops, the wharf, and some surprisingly good local eateries. Couples seem to get this immediately (they’ve rated the location 9.4), probably because there’s something romantic about being on an island where you can actually feel disconnected from the usual chaos. The highway location might sound busy, but trust me, this is Moloka’i — traffic jams here involve maybe three cars.

The Accommodations

The rooms are comfortable without trying to be fancy, which I mean as a compliment. You’ll find everything you need — clean linens, functioning AC, and views that remind you you’re definitely not in Kansas anymore. Some units have kitchenettes, which comes in handy since dining options on Moloka’i are limited (though what’s available is generally quite good). The decor leans into that classic Hawaiian lodge aesthetic — think wood paneling and island-inspired touches that feel authentic rather than themed.

What Sets It Apart

Here’s the thing about Hotel Moloka’i — it understands its role perfectly. This isn’t a place trying to compete with the big resorts on Maui or Oahu, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you experience Moloka’i properly, whether that’s pointing you toward the best local fish market or explaining why you should definitely make the drive to Halawa Valley. Recent guests have consistently rated it highly (8.4 overall), and I think that’s because expectations align perfectly with reality here.

Why Guests Love It

If you’re looking for the Hawaii that existed before everything became Instagram-optimized, this is your spot. Hotel Moloka’i gives you a comfortable base for exploring an island that still feels genuinely Hawaiian — where locals wave from their trucks and the biggest decision of your day might be which empty beach to visit. The location rating of 9.1 from recent guests tells the real story: sometimes being in the right place matters more than having the fanciest amenities. You’ll leave feeling like you actually experienced something authentic, which is worth more than any five-star spa treatment.

Hawaii’s apartments welcome long stays with workspace corners, lanai views of the Pacific, and quick routes to the coastal roads and island trails.

    Cozy and true Hawaiian feelings
Not like staying Waikiki as many tourists imagine, I loved staying with you
and restaurant staff was really friendly. Saimon deluxe was so nice.

  • Warwick from Australia (9/10)

Great location… such a relaxed atmosphere with an old school island vibe. Brilliant sunset viewing spot. Super comfortable , friendly staff and a lovely place to stay.

  • Piliokahe from United States (8/10)

Staff, location, cleanliness was great—it is wonderful when the staff doesn't give some kind of tourist hype–and just tells you honestly information.

  • Piliokahe from United States (7/10)

The staff –all were good problem solvers–and any question/any issue–they worked with me to resolve. And they never presented "it is not their job" attitude. The hotel is located right on the water with a magnificent view. The facility is dated BUT is pretty well maintained.

  • Inge from Belgium (9/10)

We had an ocean front room and we can recommend this very much. It gives you an ocean feel day and night. It has a terrace facing the ocean, great to have breakfast or an evening drink.
The restaurant too has plenty of seating close to the waves. It has nice fresh food and drinks.

  • Arfilis from United States (9/10)

I liked this hotel. It is close to the town and has a nice restaurant with live music.

  • Margrit from Germany (7/10)

The room is equipped with air conditioning. WiFi is free. The entire complex is very well maintained and clean. There are many palm trees and flowers in the garden. There are hammocks available. The hotel is only 5 minutes from the nearest town and 5 minutes in the other direction to a beautiful sandy beach.
The Restaurant for Dinner is an excellent one.

The meals were well done. The atmosphere was beautiful.
