Ilikai Tower 1817 City View 1BR Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Ilikai Tower? Walking into unit 1817, I honestly expected just another generic condo rental, but this place actually has character. The city view from that high up – I mean, you’re looking out over Honolulu from the 18th floor, and it’s the kind of vista that makes you pause with your coffee in the morning. Not ocean views (let’s be real about what “city view” means), but there’s something satisfying about watching the urban sprawl wake up below you, especially when the light hits those distant mountains just right.
The one-bedroom setup works better than you’d think. I’ve stayed in plenty of these tower conversions where they’ve clearly just slapped some furniture in and called it a day, but whoever set this up actually thought about how people live. The kitchen isn’t huge – honestly, it’s pretty compact – but it’s got everything you need if you’re planning to grab groceries at the Times Supermarket down on Kapiolani (which, trust me, you’ll want to do because eating out every meal in Waikiki gets expensive fast). The living area flows nicely into that lanai space, and even though you’re not on the beach side, you still get those trade winds coming through when you open the sliding doors. Actually, that’s one thing I really appreciated – the cross-ventilation works, so you’re not completely dependent on the AC.
Location-wise, look, the Ilikai sits right at that sweet spot where Waikiki starts transitioning into the more local feel of Keeaumoku and the mid-town area. You’re still walkable to the beach – maybe a 5-minute stroll to the lagoon area – but you’re also close to actual neighborhood spots. There’s this little plate lunch place on Keeaumoku that locals hit up, and you can actually get there without fighting through the tourist crowds on Kalakaua. Parking can be a bit of a thing (it’s Honolulu, so yeah), but the building has options, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you might not need your car as much as you think. The building itself has that 1960s Hawaii vibe – not fancy-resort polished, but solid and unpretentious in a way that feels more authentic than some of the newer developments. Check-in was straightforward, and the elevator situation isn’t too bad even during busy times, though I’d avoid rush hours if you’re carrying heavy bags up to the 18th floor.

Even though it's advertised as a one-bedroom to me it's actually a large studio with a room divider ~ but very comfortable the bed was outrageously comfortable I like that it had everything that I needed
