You know what caught me off guard about Kahana Outrigger #4B2? It’s actually way better than the 3-star rating suggests – I mean, whoever came up with that system clearly hasn’t spent much time in West Maui. This place sits right in the sweet spot of Kahana, where you’re close enough to hear the waves but far enough from the Kaanapali crowds that you can actually think.

The condo itself feels lived-in in the best possible way. I’m talking about that kind of comfortable where the furniture isn’t trying to win design awards, but everything just works. The lanai faces west (obviously), so you’ll want to grab your coffee early and camp out there around 5 PM for the sunset show. Honestly, the view alone justifies the stay – you’re looking straight out at Molokai and Lanai, and on clear days you can spot the humpbacks during winter months. The kitchen is honestly better equipped than most vacation rentals I’ve stayed in, which matters if you’re planning to hit the Farmer’s Market in Honokowai and actually cook some of that local produce.

Here’s what they don’t tell you in the booking details – parking is tight but manageable if you’re not driving some massive SUV, and the building has this old-school Hawaiian apartment vibe that I actually love. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when families come back from beach time, but mornings are perfect for a quiet swim. You’re literally a three-minute walk to Kahana Beach, which is way less chaotic than anything you’ll find down in Wailea. The snorkeling at the north end is decent too, especially near the rocky areas.

What really sold me on this spot is the location – you can walk to Honokowai Market for groceries and decent poke, and you’re close enough to drive to Napili Bay (seriously, do this) without dealing with resort traffic. The 8.0 rating makes total sense once you’re here for a few days. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities, but it delivers exactly what you want from a Maui stay without the tourist trap nonsense. I actually found myself hanging around the condo more than I expected, which usually doesn’t happen when I travel.
