Hale Halawai Park becomes your extended backyard, and if you’ve never been, it’s got this great stretch where locals play volleyball and kids run around while parents actually relax – not something you see at every beach park on the island. Plus, you’re close enough to downtown Kailua-Kona that you can walk to grab dinner, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds stumbling past your window at all hours.

I’ll be straight with you – the 7.8 rating makes sense. It’s solidly good without being spectacular, and honestly, that’s exactly what some trips call for. The check-in was straightforward (thank god, because nothing kills vacation vibes like complicated key pickup situations), and while I wouldn’t call it the quietest spot on earth, the neighborhood has this comfortable residential hum rather than tourist chaos. The parking situation is actually manageable too, which anyone who’s driven around Kona during busy season will tell you is worth its weight in gold. Look, if you’re the type who needs a concierge and daily housekeeping, keep scrolling. But if you want a clean, functional base camp that puts you right in the heart of what makes this part of the island special – the parks, the community feel, the easy access to both ocean and town – this little studio delivers on what it promises without any pretense.

  The location was great. There are so many restaurants near by, and some of them open at 7AM so no need to worry about breakfast if you’re planning on a early morning tour. The bed was soft. The sofa and chairs on the balcony was awesome. Also it’s basically in town so easy to get a Uber or Lyft. The jacuzzi and swimming pool in the yard was nice. You can really warm yourself up if needed.

  It was the perfect location, there was a free trolley that took us to the grocery store for breakfast food, the trolley took us to public beach, farmers market. Everything else was within 5 mins walking distance. We really enjoyed ourselves.
