Hotel Description
You know what? When I first pulled up to Kaimana Beach Hotel, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place. But sometimes the best travel surprises come from keeping your expectations realistic – and this little spot absolutely delivered in ways that actually matter.
The thing about Kaimana is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The lobby has this relaxed, almost residential feel – none of that sterile marble-and-chrome nonsense you see everywhere. Check-in was refreshingly quick (the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing), and I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet my room was despite being pretty close to the main road. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night, which honestly happens more often than it should at hotels in this price range. And the air conditioning? Actually works properly – you’d be amazed how many places mess that up.
What really won me over, though, was how the hotel sits in relation to everything else. You’re genuinely close to the beach – I mean actually close, not “convenient shuttle service” close – and there’s this great little stretch of sand that never seems to get completely packed with tourists. The water’s that perfect temperature where you can stay in for hours without turning into a prune. I spent most mornings walking along the shore with my coffee (decent coffee, by the way, not that watery hotel stuff), and you’ll usually have it mostly to yourself until around 10am when the day crowds start showing up. The hotel’s got this relaxed energy that just sort of seeps into you – staff moves at island pace but they’re attentive, other guests tend to be pretty chill, and there’s none of that rushed vacation anxiety you get at the massive resort chains.
Look, I’m not going to pretend this place is perfect. The WiFi can be spotty during peak hours, and if you’re the type who needs a full-service spa and three restaurants, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere. But for what it is – a solid, well-run beach hotel that doesn’t try to nickel-and-dime you at every turn – it’s actually pretty great. The 8.5 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but it nails the “comfortable beach getaway” vibe better than plenty of places that cost twice as much. I’d definitely stay here again, which honestly is about the highest praise I can give any hotel.

It’s in a great location in a less busy part of Waikiki, the lobby is adorable retro Hawaiiana. The view is fabulous!

When I arrived, the hotel wanted to charge me another $40 per night even though I had paid in advance. After I complained, they waived the charge. Parking for 2 days cost $100. The room was very basic but OK, it was clean except for the dust under the bed, the location was good and you could sleep peacefully, the staff was friendly.

Quiet location on the beach

The breakfast was good. However the eggs benedict are not as they have been in the past. The bread used us inconsistent and the hollandaise is not reliable. The eggs are somewhat overcooked.
