1730 Kaleka 4 Bed Poipu House, Guest House walk to Beach Overview
You know what strikes me first about this place? It’s actually in someone’s neighborhood, not crammed into a resort complex where everything feels manufactured. The 1730 Kaleka house sits in this quiet residential pocket of Poipu where you hear roosters in the morning instead of tour buses – honestly, I wasn’t expecting that level of authenticity when I booked it.
The four-bedroom setup works perfectly if you’re traveling with family or a group that actually likes each other (we’ve all been there with vacation rentals where you’re stepping over people constantly). What I love is how they’ve managed to keep it feeling like a real home rather than some sterile vacation rental. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent pans – small thing, but you know how frustrating it is when you want to make a simple breakfast and end up wrestling with dull utensils. The living spaces flow naturally, and honestly, after a day at the beach, you just want to sprawl out somewhere that doesn’t feel like a hotel lobby.
But here’s the real selling point – that walk to the beach isn’t tourist marketing nonsense. I mean, it’s genuinely walkable, and you’re hitting some of the better stretches of Poipu’s coastline. No need to circle around looking for parking or deal with resort crowds spilling onto public beaches. You can actually grab your coffee in the morning, wander down in flip-flops, and claim a decent spot before the day-trippers arrive. The path itself is pretty straightforward, though I’d definitely recommend reef-safe sunscreen because that Hawaiian sun hits different when you’re walking exposed stretches.
What surprised me was how quiet it stays in the evenings. Poipu can get pretty buzzy with tourists, but this particular street seems to dodge most of that chaos. You’ll hear the ocean if the wind’s right, maybe some neighbor kids playing outside, but it’s not like staying near the main strip where there’s constant traffic. The house itself is solid – good AC that actually works (crucial in Hawaii), decent water pressure, and WiFi that doesn’t make you want to throw your laptop across the room.
I should mention the property management is pretty responsive. Had a minor issue with the outdoor shower (which, by the way, is amazing after sandy beach days), and they sorted it out quickly without making it feel like a big production. Check-in was smooth, parking is right there – none of those vacation rental nightmares where you’re dragging luggage three blocks.
Look, a 9.2 rating usually makes me suspicious because those numbers can be gamed, but this place actually earns it. It’s not luxury in the marble-countertops sense, but it nails what most people actually want from a Hawaii vacation rental: space to spread out, easy beach access, and that authentic island living feel without sacrificing basic comforts. If you’re looking for white-glove service and infinity pools, book a resort. If you want to live like a local for a week and actually experience Poipu beyond the tourist machine, this house delivers exactly that.
Apartments in Hawaii provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional farmers markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Hawaiian culinary traditions.

We had a great time with this location and house. Much appreciated. We had enough beds for all 11 of us. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with cooking and baking tools. Four bathrooms was also much appreciated. They really did have everything we needed to make our stay exceptional.

The house was very open and plenty of space to hang out together with all 10 people that stayed. The kitchen is very well stocked with cooking items (pans, dishes, silverware, knives, instapot), amazing stove and very large fridge with a smaller fridge in the pantry that we kept stocked with drinks. Plenty of seating at the large table and at barstools. Bathrooms connected to the 2 bedrooms with king beds are very large with double sinks. The problem is they do not have any doors on the bathrooms except for where the toilet is. You had to keep the large sliding doors on the bedrooms closed (the bedroom doors don’t lock) or you could see straight into the shower from the hallway. Beds that weren’t sofa beds were very comfortable. About 7 beach chairs, 2 body boards, beach umbrella, and beach toys were nice to have available. There was a fan in each room and some rooms had ceiling fans. These were necessary as the house has no A/C and it did get very warm sometimes even in January.
