Unit 5-311 sits right in the sweet spot of South Kihei – close enough to everything you actually want to do, but tucked away from the chaos that can swallow up some of the beachfront spots during peak season.
The condo itself feels like someone’s well-loved vacation home rather than a sterile rental. I mean, you’ve got this partial ocean view that honestly gets better as the day goes on (the sunsets from the lanai are pretty spectacular), and the trade winds actually do their job here – something you can’t always count on depending on which side of the building you’re on. The kitchen’s properly stocked too, which I appreciated since eating out every meal in Maui will drain your wallet faster than you’d think. What really sold me though was how quiet it stays at night. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from Kamaole Beach Park III – locals just call it Kam 3 – but you don’t get the late-night party noise that drifts up from some of the closer units.
Here’s the thing about this particular spot that I wish someone had told me beforehand: the pool area gets busy around 10 AM when families start arriving, but if you’re an early riser, you’ll have it mostly to yourself. The complex has this laid-back vibe where people actually talk to each other – I ended up getting some great restaurant recommendations from a couple who’d been coming here for years. Parking’s never been an issue (which, trust me, matters more than you think in Kihei), and you’re literally across the street from that little ABC Store when you inevitably forget sunscreen or need ice. The beach access is what really makes this location work though – Kam 3 has decent snorkeling on the north end, and it’s way less crowded than the beaches closer to the resorts. Plus, if you want to explore, you’re perfectly positioned. Wailea’s fancy shopping and restaurants are maybe ten minutes south, but you can also hit up the local food trucks and that amazing poke place on South Kihei Road without feeling like you’re schlepping across the island.
