Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Kihei over the years, and Kamaole Sands 5-112 honestly surprised me in the best way. When you first pull up, it doesn’t scream luxury or anything – it’s got that classic Maui condo vibe from the outside – but once you get settled in unit 5-112, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty solid.
The thing about this particular unit is the location within the complex actually matters more than you’d think. You’re high enough to catch those trade winds (trust me, you’ll want them), but not so high that hauling groceries from Foodland becomes a workout. And speaking of groceries, you’re literally a five-minute walk from everything you need on South Kihei Road – I mean, Times Market is right there, plus that little ABC Store when you inevitably forget sunscreen. The real win though? You can walk to all three Kamaole Beach Parks without getting in your car. Beach Park II is probably your best bet for actual swimming, while III gets a bit more crowded with the tourists, but honestly, having options right outside your door is pretty unbeatable.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it feels lived-in rather than sterile – you know what I mean? The lanai setup is perfect for morning coffee before the day gets hot, and the kitchen is actually functional (I’ve been burned by too many “kitchenettes” that are basically decorative). The complex itself has that low-key local feel where you’ll see the same families coming back year after year, which tells you something. Pool area gets busy around 2 PM when everyone’s taking a sun break, but early morning and evening it’s practically yours. One small thing – parking can get tight during peak season, but if you’re in 5-112, you’re close enough to the assigned spots that it’s not a big deal. The only real downside I’d mention is that South Kihei Road can get a bit noisy with traffic, especially during morning and evening rush (well, Maui’s version of rush hour anyway), but once you’re inside with the sliding doors closed, it’s not an issue. For the price point and location, this unit delivers exactly what most people are looking for in a Maui stay – easy beach access, real amenities, and that authentic local feel without the resort markup.
