Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Maui, and honestly? This KBM Resorts unit at Honua Kai is one of those spots that just gets it right. You know what I mean – it’s not trying too hard, but everything actually works the way it should. The wrap-around lanai situation is legit, by the way. I’m talking about waking up to the ocean stretching out in front of you, then walking around to catch the sunset from a completely different angle. It’s like having two hotel rooms’ worth of views for the price of one.
The whole Hokulani tower thing – honestly, I was skeptical at first because sometimes these newer developments feel kind of sterile. But this place has that sweet spot between fancy and livable. The unit itself (HKH-609, if you’re keeping track) sits high enough that you’re not dealing with people walking by your lanai, but you’re not so high up that the elevator ride becomes a whole thing. And can we talk about that rental car inclusion for a second? I mean, you’re going to need wheels on Maui anyway – gas stations, grocery runs to Foodland, hitting up those beaches that aren’t right outside your door. Having it bundled in just makes sense, especially when you factor in how much rental cars usually cost on the island.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how it actually feels like you’re living there for a week instead of just visiting. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to hit up the Farmers Market in Kahului (Saturdays are crazy busy, but worth it), and there’s enough space that you’re not tripping over your luggage every time you turn around. The building itself sits right on Kaanapali Beach, which – okay, it gets crowded during peak season, but early morning walks are still pretty magical. You’ll hear the waves from your bed, which sounds cliché but honestly never gets old. Plus, you’re close enough to Lahaina that you can grab dinner at places like Cool Cat Cafe without it being a whole production, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with Front Street tourist chaos every day. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the trade winds can be pretty strong on that lanai – great for cooling off, but maybe bring some clips if you’re planning to do any reading out there. Four stars feels about right for this spot, maybe even conservative depending on what you’re looking for.
Early hotels booking in Hawaii is essential during major events like the Ironman World Championship, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the islands’ renowned surfing culture and tropical beauty.
