You know what caught me off guard about this place? The rental car thing actually makes total sense once you’re there. I mean, staying at Honua Kai in Hokulani tower is fantastic – you’re basically in one of the best spots on Ka’anapali Beach – but honestly, having wheels included in your booking is kind of genius. You’ll want to hit up places like Mama’s Fish House or drive the Road to Hana, and rental cars on Maui can get ridiculously expensive, especially during peak season.

The ocean view from HKH-442 is what sold me on this particular unit. I’ve stayed in a few different towers at Honua Kai over the years, and Hokulani definitely has some of the better sightlines – you’re looking straight out at Lanai and Molokai on clear days, which is most days if we’re being honest. The “upgraded” part isn’t just marketing speak either; the finishes and appliances are noticeably nicer than some of the older units I’ve been in. The kitchen actually functions like a real kitchen, not one of those vacation rental afterthoughts where you can barely toast bread. And the lanai… well, you’ll spend way more time out there than you planned, watching the sunset with a drink while people are still down on the beach.

What I really appreciate about this property – and this might sound weird – is that it doesn’t feel like a hotel trying too hard to be fancy. The whole Honua Kai vibe is sort of relaxed luxury, if that makes sense. You’ve got the gorgeous pools (the adult pool is clutch if you’re not traveling with kids), you’re steps from one of the best beaches on the island, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of some of the bigger resorts down the beach. The walk to Whalers Village takes maybe ten minutes if you want restaurants and shopping, or you can grab groceries at Times Supermarket and actually cook something decent in your full kitchen. Parking is included too, which saves you another headache – and trust me, finding parking around Ka’anapali can be a real pain during busy periods. The 9.0 rating honestly feels about right; it’s not perfect (the elevators can be slow when everyone’s trying to get down to the beach at the same time), but the combination of location, amenities, and having transportation sorted out makes this a pretty smart choice for a Maui stay.

  Location was wonderful. It was better than we expected. Duke's restaurant on location was a happy realization. The condo was well equipped. Loved having a kitchen to cook. Excellent view. Loved the key codes vs having to carry a key card around. Loved that the condo had beach chairs and a cooler and even beach toys! Pools and beach access couldn't have been better! And the little chocolate and coffee gifts made us feel so welcome!
