You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this place in Keaau – I mean, it’s not exactly the flashy resort strip you picture when you think Hawaii. But honestly, that turned out to be exactly why I loved it here. This little apartment sits on this gorgeous acre of property that feels like your own private slice of the Big Island, complete with a pool that’s actually clean (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case) and a deck where I spent way too many mornings with my coffee just listening to the coqui frogs from the night before finally quieting down.

The whole setup is pretty laid-back – we’re talking 3-star accommodations, so don’t expect marble countertops or anything fancy. But here’s the thing: it’s got this authentic Hawaii vibe that a lot of the bigger places completely miss. The pool isn’t huge, but it’s perfect for cooling off after you’ve been exploring the lava tubes or hiking around Lava Tree State Monument (which is maybe ten minutes away, by the way). I actually found myself using it more than I thought I would, especially in the afternoons when that Big Island sun gets intense. The deck space is generous too – like, actually big enough to spread out and not feel cramped, which was clutch since we ended up eating most of our meals out there.

What really struck me about staying here was how quiet it gets at night. Keaau isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis anyway, but being tucked away on this property with all the space around you, you really feel like you’re away from everything. Perfect if you’re planning to do the early morning Kilauea thing or just want to decompress without hearing traffic or other guests slamming doors. The 9.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places where the owners clearly care about the details, even the small stuff like having enough towels and decent water pressure. I mean, it’s not luxury by any stretch, but it’s comfortable in that genuine way that makes you actually want to hang out at your accommodation instead of just crash there between adventures.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hawaii at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak winter season when the islands host numerous cultural festivals and outdoor activities.

  The unit was roomy and well laid out. Everything we needed was there. The host was onsite, Lester, and was very accommodating. The grounds/garden was beautiful and relaxing. There are tomato, lemon and avocado plants I had several tomatoes.

  This place was wonderfull. The appartment is fully equipped and we felt very comfortable. We loved having breakfast on the patio and listen to the nature in the evenings 🙂
  The owners are very welcoming and nice. It is a great place for trips to Volcano National park.
