You know what, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Kihei Akahi — honestly, the building looks pretty standard from the outside, sort of like those typical Maui condo complexes you see everywhere. But C606 actually surprised me in the best way. The unit itself is well-maintained and feels like someone actually cares about the place, not just another vacation rental that gets the bare minimum treatment.

The location is what really makes this spot work though. You’re right in the heart of Kihei, which means you can walk to a bunch of decent restaurants without getting back in your rental car every single time you want food (trust me, this matters more than you think). I mean, you’ve got Coconut’s Fish Cafe just down the road, and if you’re willing to drive maybe five minutes, you can hit up some really solid local spots that the tourists haven’t completely discovered yet. The beach access is legit too — it’s not like some places where they say “near the beach” and you end up walking fifteen minutes through a subdivision. You’re actually close enough to hear the waves at night, which is either relaxing or slightly annoying depending on how light of a sleeper you are.

What I really appreciated was the practical stuff that a lot of places mess up. The kitchen actually has decent knives and pans you can cook with (not those sad, warped things you usually find), parking was straightforward, and the wifi worked consistently — which, let’s be honest, can be hit or miss in some parts of Maui. The whole complex is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with people partying until 2am, but it’s not so sleepy that you feel isolated. I’d say it skews toward families and couples rather than the spring break crowd, if that gives you an idea of the vibe. The only thing I’d mention is that it’s not luxury by any stretch — the furnishings are comfortable but pretty basic, and you might hear your neighbors occasionally through the walls. But for the price point and location, it’s honestly a solid choice, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the island anyway rather than hanging around the room all day.

  Excellent Location right across from Kamaole II, close to several restaurants, with a lovely view from the balcony. There are two pools, some scheduled activities such as a ukulele lesson one evening. The room had everything you’d need from beach chairs to a small freezer! We don’t rent cars anymore and use the bus instead. The bus stops are within a block either direction.
