Hotel Description

You know what? Kihei Bay Surf 233 is one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. I mean, it’s a solid 3-star spot, but the location in Kihei is pretty much unbeatable if you’re looking to actually experience Maui like a local rather than being stuck in some resort bubble. The moment you pull up, you realize this isn’t about marble lobbies or doormen – it’s about being literally steps from some of the best beach access on the island.

The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the heart of where Kihei actually happens. I’m talking about being able to walk to Kalama Park (where the locals surf and the kids play), and you’re practically neighbors with all those food trucks that serve the kind of plate lunches that’ll ruin you for mainland Hawaiian food forever. The building itself has that authentic Hawaii condo vibe – you know, the kind where you can hear the trade winds through the lanai screens and the smell of plumeria drifts up from the courtyard. Sure, it’s not going to win any architectural awards, but there’s something refreshing about a place that puts location and comfort over Instagram-worthy aesthetics. The 7.7 rating makes total sense because while everything works and the place is clean and comfortable, you’re definitely paying for that prime Kihei location rather than luxury amenities.

What really sold me on this spot is how it puts you in the rhythm of actual island life. Morning coffee on the lanai while watching the local surfers check the waves, afternoon walks to Foodland for poke (which, by the way, is like three blocks away), and evenings when you can hear the ocean but also the gentle hum of neighborhood life. The parking situation is straightforward – no valet nonsense or circling the block – and check-in was refreshingly simple. Look, if you need a spa and room service and all that, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want to wake up in Kihei, grab some malasadas from the bakery down the street, and spend your day hopping between Wailea’s fancy beaches and the local spots only residents know about, then honestly, Kihei Bay Surf 233 gives you the perfect home base. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re staying in Hawaii, not just visiting a hotel that happens to be in Hawaii.

The location of the property was PERFECT. Food nearby, grocery stores, shops, really anything you could want and need with the vibe of a town. Great location. Central and close to everything, even the other sides of Maui. A quick walk to a beach right across the street for sunset viewing was very nice. So many beaches close by to choose from!

Quiet property, which was nice too. We were only there at night to sleep, mostly. The property was stocked with everything we would need for making food, coffee, cooking, baking.. anything, even towels for the beach, though we had our own.

The best thing – The staff! One little hiccup while we were staying there and WOW! The staff bent over backwards to help us fix the issue and accommodate us as well! What an amazing group of people and really made the stay that much better. They were/are lovely, so kind, and very nice.
