Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Kona Alii 512 – I mean, condo hotels can be hit or miss, right? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It sits right there on Alii Drive, and honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the massive resort crowds. You’re literally walking distance to some of the best local spots that most tourists never find.

The unit itself has that lived-in feeling that I actually prefer over those sterile hotel rooms – it’s clear someone put thought into making it comfortable rather than just Instagram-worthy. The lanai faces west (which, trust me, matters here), so you get those incredible Kona sunsets without having to fight for a spot at one of the waterfront bars. I spent way too many evenings out there with a beer, watching the cruise ships drift by. The kitchen’s actually functional too, not just for show – I ended up cooking more than I planned because the Safeway’s just up the road, and honestly, eating out every meal in Kona can get expensive fast. There’s decent counter space and everything you need, though the coffee maker could use an upgrade (I mean, we’re in Kona coffee country, people).

What really sold me on this place was all the little things you don’t realize matter until you’re there. The AC actually works well – and in summer, that’s not a given in some of these older buildings. Parking’s included, which saves you like $25 a night that the big resorts charge. The pool area’s nothing fancy, but it’s clean and rarely crowded, plus it’s got that tropical vibe without trying too hard. I loved that I could walk to the pier in the morning to watch the fishing boats come in, grab coffee at Island Lava Java (locals swear by it), and still be back for a quick dip before it got too hot. The whole setup just feels more… real, I guess? Like you’re staying where someone actually lives rather than in tourist bubble-land. Sure, it’s not brand new and the furnishings aren’t designer, but everything works and it’s got character. For the price point and that location right on Alii Drive, it’s honestly hard to beat – especially if you want to experience Kona like someone who actually knows the place.

We came here for the Ironman race and family vacation. The place is well stocked with supplies, making it feel like live at home. Without AC, it’s still ok with a lot of fans provided. Location is very convenient! We had a great time.

Location was great. Very close to many restaurants, the ocean and shops. Balcony gave amazing views of the bay and the mountains behind. The 3 bathrooms and kitchen set up was perfect. The condo had everything you need to cook. The property provided several fans which was helpful, plus beach chairs and snorkeling gear.

I liked the space and options to walk to restaurants & shopping. It was nice to view some of the ocean and hear the ocean. For being in the hub of town, I felt secure and secluded.
