Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Kona Mansions D-226? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy, and honestly, that’s exactly what I needed after dealing with all the polished resort madness elsewhere on the Big Island. This is a solid 3-star spot that knows what it is – a comfortable base where you can actually relax without feeling like you need to dress up to walk through the lobby.
The unit itself has that lived-in vacation rental vibe that I actually prefer over sterile hotel rooms. The lanai faces west, which means you’re getting those incredible Kona sunsets every single evening (I mean, seriously, the colors over the water are ridiculous). The kitchen’s nothing special but it’s totally functional – I made coffee there every morning and threw together simple breakfasts before heading out to explore. The air conditioning works well, which you’ll appreciate because even though you’re close to the ocean, it can get pretty warm during the day. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night. You’re far enough from Ali’i Drive that you don’t hear the tourist traffic, but close enough that you can walk to decent restaurants when you don’t feel like cooking.
Speaking of location – and this is where local knowledge really matters – you’re perfectly positioned between the busy Kailua-Kona action and the more residential areas where actual locals live. It’s maybe a 10-minute drive to the main drag where all the shops and touristy restaurants are, but you can also easily get to some of the better local spots that visitors often miss. The complex has decent parking (which is not a given in Kona, trust me), and the grounds are well-maintained without being overly manicured. I appreciated that it felt like a neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble. The 7.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but everything works, it’s clean, and you get genuine value for what you pay. If you’re the type of traveler who wants a comfortable home base for exploring the island rather than a place where you’ll spend all day lounging by a fancy pool, this hits the sweet spot perfectly.

Three comfortable beds (pull out couch), clean, and a good value for being able to sleep 6. Beach amenities were included and the checkout process was short and simple.

I love how the place has big windows and is surrounded by bunch of plants and trees makes you feel one with the nature. It’s also near by the beach and restaurants which is nice we didn’t have to worry where we decide to eat.

The location was very convenient! Walking distance to many of the shopping plazas and beaches.

The Vacasa staff did a good job to remedy a terrible mattress and pillow situation. They also showed us the description that correctly listed the bathrooms as 1.5 vs Booking.com’s listing as 2 bathrooms.
