Hotel Description
You know what? Little Paradise in Waikiki really does live up to its name, even if it sounds a bit cheesy at first. I mean, when you’re dealing with Waikiki hotels, you’ve got to set realistic expectations – this isn’t the Royal Hawaiian, but honestly, for a solid 3-star spot, it delivers way more than you’d expect for the price point.
The ocean views here are actually legit, not like some places that claim “ocean view” when you can barely glimpse a sliver of blue between two high-rises. From most rooms, you’re looking right out at that gorgeous Waikiki stretch, and in the mornings – well, let me tell you, having your coffee while watching the early surfers paddle out is pretty magical. The sound of the waves is constant but not overwhelming, though if you’re a super light sleeper, you might want to pack earplugs since Kalakaua Avenue can get a bit lively at night (especially on weekends when the party crowd is out). The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but they’ve clearly been updated recently. The AC works great, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when it’s 85 degrees and humid.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it feels more like a local secret than a tourist trap. The staff actually knows the area – ask them about the best plate lunch spots or where to catch the sunset away from the crowds, and they’ll point you toward places like Rainbow Drive-In or suggest heading up to Tantalus Lookout instead of fighting for space at Diamond Head. You’re close enough to walk to everything (the beach is literally a two-minute stroll, and ABC Store runs are basically next door), but far enough from the absolute chaos of the main strip that you can actually relax. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle – there’s some available but it fills up fast, so either get there early or be prepared to circle the block a few times. Check-in was smooth when I was there, though I’d imagine things get hectic during peak season. The pool area is small but surprisingly peaceful, and there’s something really nice about being able to cool off without dealing with beach sand everywhere. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the 7.3 rating feels about right – it’s good, solid, reliable. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re more interested in exploring Oahu than hanging out in your hotel room anyway.
