Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about the Luana Inn? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you – and somehow that makes it even better. I mean, it’s technically a 3-star place, but honestly, it punches way above its weight class. The moment you walk into that lobby, there’s this warm, lived-in feeling that a lot of fancier hotels just can’t fake.

The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – nothing flashy, but everything actually works the way it should. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m pretty picky about mattresses), and the linens feel like they’ve been chosen by someone who actually sleeps in hotel beds regularly. What really got me was the attention to little things that matter when you’re traveling. The outlets are actually placed where you need them, the shower has decent water pressure, and – this might sound weird – but the curtains actually block out light when you want to sleep in. I’ve stayed at places twice the price where half the lamps didn’t work.

The staff here seems to genuinely care about what they’re doing, which you can tell pretty quickly. Check-in was smooth without being robotic, and when I had a question about getting around the area, the front desk person gave me actual useful advice instead of just pointing to a rack of tourist brochures. I also appreciated that they keep things quiet – you’re not dealing with slamming doors and hallway conversations at all hours. Actually, I think the walls might be better insulated than they look, because I barely heard my neighbors despite the place being pretty full when I was there. The common areas have this relaxed vibe where you might actually want to hang out for a few minutes rather than just rush through. There’s something about the lighting and the way they’ve arranged the furniture that makes it feel more like a friend’s well-decorated living room than a hotel lobby. And honestly, for a 3-star place, they’ve managed to create an atmosphere that feels more genuine than a lot of those over-designed boutique spots that charge twice as much and leave you feeling like you’re living in a magazine spread rather than a place where real people stay.

The peaceful view over the pool area and the courtesy and friendliness of Carol and Kevin, the caretakers, was awesome. Breakfast with fresh fruits and local delicacies in the pool area was delicious and relaxing and the lawn was well taken care of.

A gorgeous, tranquil place. We really enjoyed our stay and would have liked to stay longer. The view from our room and the pool area was spectacular, the room was very spacious and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the fruit salad beautiful! The couple who looked after us were really nice…We hope to go back one day!

This Inn is located in a quiet, more rural part of Kona. It is very private and secluded. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean and swimming in the non-chlorinated pool.
