You know what struck me first about the Luana Waikiki? It’s got this laid-back vibe that actually feels Hawaiian, not like some corporate chain that happens to be sitting in paradise. I mean, sure, it’s a 4-star place so you’re getting decent amenities and all that, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it. The lobby has this sort of old-school tropical feel – think rattan furniture and local artwork instead of marble everything. Honestly, after staying at some of those massive resort complexes where you need GPS to find your room, the Luana feels refreshingly human-sized.

The suites are where this place really shines, and I get why it pulls an 8.3 rating. Most of them have these little kitchenettes that are actually useful – not just a mini-fridge and microwave shoved in a corner, but proper counter space where you can prep some poke from the local market or make coffee that doesn’t taste like hotel lobby sadness. The balconies… well, let’s be real, you’re not getting direct beachfront here, but honestly? That works in your favor. You’re close enough to walk to Waikiki Beach in maybe five minutes, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the constant parade of street performers and tour groups right outside your window at 6 AM. Plus, some of the higher floors give you these glimpse views of Diamond Head that are pretty spectacular, especially around sunset.

What I really appreciate is how the staff actually knows the area – like, really knows it. The front desk folks will steer you toward the good local spots instead of just handing you the same tourist pamphlets every hotel stocks. They told me about this little coffee shop tucked away on a side street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it became my daily ritual. The pool area is nothing fancy, but it’s got this quiet, almost residential feel where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re performing vacation for Instagram. Parking can be a bit of a dance – it’s Waikiki, so street parking is basically a blood sport – but the hotel has valet service that’s honestly worth it just for the peace of mind. The whole place just feels like it gets the balance right between being comfortable and not trying too hard to impress you with unnecessary bells and whistles. It’s the kind of place where you settle in and think, “Yeah, this works,” instead of spending your first day figuring out how everything operates.

  Enjoyed our stay at this location we had a kitchenette and the BBQ area was great.
  The park was lovely to walk through to the beach.

  This hotel is well located in Waikiki Beach, and we had an end unit with an ocean view (though a bit distant). The room amenities were great – nice decor, comfortable bed. In and out valet parking was helpful.

  Staff at reception was really lovely. They let us check in early which was a big help after a long haul flight with kid. Location was great too.

  Great location, near the beach and downtown Honolulu while still being away from the noise. The views from the balcony are beautiful. The hotel looks out on a park and you can see the beach. We were able to watch the Friday fireworks from our balcony and it was spectacular! The staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the manager’s welcome reception with wine, beer, cheese, ukelele music, and hula!

  I love having a kitchenette for breakfasts and occasional meals when I travel. The room was comfortable and so much cheaper than locations on the beach. It was a short walk through parkland to the lovely, slightly less busy, Fort DeRussy Beach, plus a short stroll to the hubbub of central Waikiki.
