The place really does feel like a penthouse – you’re up high enough that you get these sweeping ocean views without dealing with all the beach foot traffic noise that can drive you crazy on the lower floors of most Hawaiian hotels. What got me was how they actually designed the space for seven people without making it feel like a cramped vacation rental. I mean, we had three generations packed in there, and somehow my teenage nephew wasn’t constantly bumping into my parents. The living area sort of opens up in this way where you can have multiple conversations happening without everyone talking over each other. And the kitchen – well, it’s actually big enough that when my mom decided she absolutely had to make her famous banana pancakes for everyone, she wasn’t elbowing people out of the way every five minutes.

You know what really impressed me though? The little details that show someone who runs this place actually thinks about how families travel. There are enough USB outlets that we weren’t fighting over charging spots, and the shower pressure is legitimately good – not that sad trickle you get in so many vacation spots. The beds are comfortable enough that my dad, who complains about hotel mattresses literally everywhere we go, actually slept well. Plus, the air conditioning works properly, which sounds basic but trust me, in Hawaii humidity, you’ll appreciate it. The only thing that was sort of annoying was the elevator situation during peak hours – seems like everyone in the building has the same idea about heading to the beach around 10 AM, so you might wait a few extra minutes. But honestly, for a 4-star place with this kind of space and those views, that’s pretty minor. We ended up booking it again for this winter because my sister-in-law kept talking about “that place in Hawaii where we could all actually relax together” – and honestly, that’s probably the best endorsement I can give.
