Hotel Description

You know what? MAILAN HALE II totally caught me off guard – and honestly, that 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you spend a night or two there. I mean, it’s technically a 3-star place, but it punches way above its weight in ways that actually matter when you’re traveling.

The first thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve managed to create this really welcoming vibe without trying too hard. The lobby’s got this lived-in feeling – not fancy, but clean and comfortable in a way that makes you think the owners actually care about the place. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no upselling or weird fees), and the staff seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. I stayed on the third floor and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was – you know how some mid-range hotels can be echo chambers? Not here. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with decent lighting and – this is key – actually comfortable beds. The bathroom was spotless, good water pressure, and they’d clearly invested in quality towels rather than those scratchy things you usually get at this price point.

What really won me over, though, was the attention to small details that show someone’s thinking about the guest experience. There’s actually decent coffee in the lobby (not that burnt stuff), and they keep it stocked throughout the day. The Wi-Fi worked everywhere I tried it, which honestly shouldn’t be remarkable but still is in a lot of places. Parking was easy and included, which saved me the headache of hunting around the neighborhood. I also appreciated that housekeeping was thorough but not intrusive – they worked around my schedule instead of banging on the door at 8 AM. The whole place just felt well-managed, you know? Like someone’s paying attention to the operation rather than just collecting checks. It’s the kind of spot where you can tell the difference between a hotel that’s just getting by and one that’s actually trying to give you a good stay for your money. Would I stay again? Absolutely – sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that don’t need to shout about how great they are.

No breakfast available. loved the spacious living room, the huge sofa, and parking was a plus, kitchen is well equipped except no rice cooker. close to everything in kailua town. it was easy to find via kuakini hwy.

  • Tracie from United States (7/10)

Location was good, close to many stores. The on-site host was excellent and attempted to fulfill all of our requests.

  • Laura from United States (9/10)

Nice backyard with a hammock and a place to do laundry. It was also a plus to give some love to the pet rabbit marshmallow, who often grazed in the backyard. There is no view per se, but it’s so close to a walk into downtown

  • William from United States (8/10)

Nothing. I can’t believe I am putting this review for the first time ever in my history of booking an accomodation in booking.com. I am not a picky person, I’ve booked hostels, and different star level for accomodation in booking.com. But this is the first time, it did not meet my basic standard – no musty smell, with good ventillation. It maybe different preferences, but I booked this “studio” apartment because of the good reviews, and again it failed to meet the basics.

Location and cheap. This is a studio underneath a family home. Had air con and cooking facilities. Towels included.
