Hotel Description

You know what? The Manoa Valley Inn isn’t going to wow you with fancy lobbies or infinity pools, but there’s something genuinely charming about this little 3-star spot tucked away in one of Oahu’s most underrated neighborhoods. I mean, when you’re driving up into Manoa Valley – away from all the Waikiki chaos – you start to feel like you’re discovering the Hawaii that locals actually know about.

The inn has this old-school bed and breakfast vibe that honestly feels more authentic than a lot of the resort experiences you’ll find closer to the beach. The rooms are comfortable without being flashy (think clean lines, decent beds, and those little touches that show someone actually cares about the place), and here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re literally minutes from the trailhead to Manoa Falls. I’m talking about one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes on the island, and you can basically roll out of bed and be on the trail before the tour buses arrive. The morning light filtering through all that rainforest canopy? Absolutely magical.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location within the valley itself. You’re surrounded by these lush, green ridges that catch clouds throughout the day – it’s actually cooler here than down by the beach, which is perfect if you’re one of those people who can’t sleep when it’s too humid. The neighborhood has this residential feel where you’ll see local families out walking their dogs, and there’s something refreshing about being somewhere that doesn’t feel like it exists solely for tourists. Sure, you’ll need to drive about 15-20 minutes to get to the main attractions (and parking in Waikiki can be a nightmare, just so you know), but honestly? Coming back to this quiet valley after a day of fighting crowds at Diamond Head or Pearl Harbor feels like a genuine retreat. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, comfortable, and gives you access to a side of Oahu that a lot of visitors miss entirely. Plus, if you’re into hiking or just want to experience what it feels like to stay somewhere with actual Hawaiian rainforest vibes, this spot delivers in ways that beachfront hotels simply can’t.

To book a hotel in Hawaii during the famous winter whale watching season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the islands attract tropical paradise seekers and ocean lovers from around the world.

The made-to-order breakfast each morning was amazing. The rooms are very clean and wonderfully decorated. All of the staff are very friendly and the pool was great. I also appreciated that it is locally family-owned.

The property is in a beautiful location and the house had a charming old Hawai’i vibe, very cool.

It was quiet and the bed was pretty comfortable though definitely needs new pillows and bedding. Great location and view. Very homey feel, large room so not cramped.

The house is classic, so staying in that type of place is a sharp contrast to the high-rises in Waikiki. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We spent two nights and enjoyed the stay.

  • Jana from Germany (8/10)

Hidden gem in Manoa Valley with an incredible view across the skyline of Waikiki Beach. Very charming flair. The rooms are mostly clean and the beds are comfortable. Here and there some dust but it somehow fits to the property.

Close to the university area and only 5 minutes to the business district. No additional charges for resort fee or parking.

Beautiful old wooden-built hotel, still being restored to former glory, with lovely olde worlde rooms, more a bed & breakfast, set in the University neighborhood away from city hustle. It was perfect for a quiet overnight stay, especially for older couples. Nice setting, gardens.

I liked the old fashioned B&B in a historical landmark.
Many would say everything was a bit long in the tooth, but I appreciate that sort of thing.
Lisa, my host, was a gem.

The workers were amazing. They were really nice and helpful. It was definitely such a great vibe. The food was great and the place itself was beautiful if you like an antique look. We enjoyed our stay. It was our first time ever booking a room like this and it was honestly great. I would definitely book with them again.
