First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a timeshare property. But this four-star resort on Kauai’s south shore completely changed my perspective. The moment you walk through the open-air lobby, you’re hit with those incredible ocean views and the sound of waves crashing just steps away. It’s one of those places where you immediately feel like you’re in Hawaii — not just at another beach hotel.

The Poipu Advantage

The location in Poipu is honestly perfect, especially if you want that sunny south shore vibe without the crowds of Waikiki. You’re literally on Poipu Beach, which locals will tell you is one of the island’s best family beaches — calm waters, great snorkeling, and those adorable monk seals that sometimes lounge on the sand. What I love is that you can walk to Brennecke’s Beach Broiler for dinner or grab shave ice at Uncle’s, but you’re also close enough to explore the dramatic cliffs at Spouting Horn. The parking situation is actually stress-free here, which anyone who’s visited popular Hawaiian beaches will appreciate.

Villa-Style Comfort

Here’s where this place really shines — you’re not getting a typical hotel room. These are spacious villa-style accommodations with full kitchens, separate living areas, and private lanais. I mean, having a proper kitchen in Hawaii is game-changing when you want to prep fresh fish from the local markets or just make coffee without leaving your suite. The units feel more like vacation homes than hotel rooms, which makes sense given the timeshare setup, but as a regular guest, you get all the benefits of that residential feel.

Beach Club Perks

The resort keeps things relatively low-key, which I actually prefer over those massive properties where you need a map to find the pool. There’s a nice oceanfront pool area, but honestly, you’ll probably spend most of your time on the actual beach — it’s that good. The staff here seems to genuinely care about your experience, and they’re great with local recommendations that go beyond the typical tourist spots. You know what really impressed me? They have beach gear you can borrow, so you don’t need to pack everything or pay resort fees for basic stuff.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gives you the best of both worlds — the amenities and service of a quality resort with the space and privacy of a vacation rental. Couples especially seem to love it here (and I can see why), but families appreciate having room to spread out and the option to cook some meals. The beach access alone makes it worth considering, but add in the villa-style accommodations and that prime Poipu location, and you’ve got something special. It’s not trying to be the flashiest resort on the island — it’s just focused on giving you an authentic Hawaiian beach experience with all the comforts you actually want.

  The property is so pretty and the location offers the best beach of the Island. Poipu Beach is incredible beautiful and perfect for both sunrises and sunsets. The presence of sea turtles and seals are definitely a bonus. I'm verry happy that volunteers are protecting the animals on the beach against overenthusiastic tourists. The beach gets crowded during the day but there is enough space at the swimming pool or on the beach chairs (reserved for hotel guests only) in front of the beach. Marriott's Waihohai Beach Club is a good base to explore the island like the Waimea canyons, whale watching…
