Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Marriott’s Kaua’i Beach Club? It’s actually right on Kalapaki Beach, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re staying on the Garden Isle. I mean, there are plenty of hotels that claim beach access, but this one literally opens up onto one of Kaua’i’s most swimmable stretches of sand – and trust me, that matters when you’ve got kids or you’re not exactly a strong swimmer dealing with those powerful North Shore waves.

The property itself feels more like a collection of low-rise buildings scattered around tropical gardens rather than your typical hotel tower situation. Walking between the rooms and main areas, you’ll catch whiffs of plumeria and hear those distinctive sounds of mynah birds chattering overhead (they’re loud in the mornings, fair warning). The rooms are solid Marriott quality – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything works and the lanais actually have decent views if you’re facing the right direction. I’d say the 4-star rating feels about right; it’s comfortable and well-maintained without being fancy-schmancy. The 7.8 rating makes sense too – it does what it promises, but there are definitely some rough edges that keep it from being exceptional.

What really sets this place apart is the location within Lihue. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Kalapaki Beach Hut (get the fish tacos), and you can see Duke’s Barefoot Bar from some of the rooms – which is both convenient for dinner and slightly annoying if you’re trying to sleep early since they sometimes have live music. The Lihue Airport is close enough that you’ll hear planes, but honestly after a day or two you stop noticing. Plus, being this close to the airport when you’re dragging tired kids and suitcases? Actually pretty brilliant. You’re also right near Nawiliwili Harbor where the cruise ships dock, so some days you’ll have that cruise crowd energy (which can be fun or overwhelming depending on your mood).

The pool area gets busy during peak season – we’re talking December through March and summer months – but there’s usually space if you’re flexible about timing. Early morning is gorgeous there, with the sun hitting the water just right and hardly anyone around except maybe a few dedicated coffee drinkers. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which you notice in little ways like remembering your name or pointing out good sunset spots. It’s not going to be the most luxurious place you’ve ever stayed, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on location and solid basics rather than trying to dazzle you with over-the-top amenities you’ll never use.

  Your location is wonderful. Close proximity of Lihue. The overall property impression was great! The room was a bit tired and outdated. The murphy bed did not meet my expectations. Storing the cushions and Putting it up and down by ourselves each night was a pain. I’m sure without Covid restrictions, the housekeepers would of done this — really left me with a bad experience on that side. room size was good. view was amazing!
