Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about the Maui Banyan Vacation Club? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly what made my stay there work so well. Sure, it’s a 3-star property, but the location in Kihei puts you right where you want to be without the crazy resort prices that’ll drain your mai tai fund.
The condo-style setup is actually perfect if you’re planning to stay more than a couple nights. I mean, having a real kitchen means you can hit up the Foodland nearby and make your own breakfast instead of paying $18 for hotel pancakes every morning. The units I’ve seen vary quite a bit – some feel recently updated while others have that tropical-but-tired vibe from the early 2000s, but they’re all spacious and the lanais are genuinely nice for morning coffee. The pool area gets busy around mid-morning when families with kids show up, but if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll have it mostly to yourself around 7 AM. There’s something really satisfying about floating there while watching the palm trees sway – sounds cheesy, but it’s true.
What I really appreciate is how the staff treats you like a person rather than a walking credit card. Check-in was smooth, parking is free (which is honestly a blessing in Kihei), and when I had an issue with the air conditioning making weird clicking sounds at night, maintenance actually showed up the same day. The location puts you within walking distance of some solid local spots – Coconut’s Fish Cafe is literally right there if you want poke that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around, and you’re close enough to the beach that you’ll actually use it instead of just talking about going. I found myself at Kamaole Beach Park II most afternoons because it’s less crowded than the main tourist strips but still has decent facilities. The trade winds pick up in the late afternoon, which is perfect timing since that’s when you really need the breeze. One thing to note – if you’re on the makai side (ocean side), you’ll get some road noise from South Kihei Road, but it’s not terrible and you get used to it. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a week, establish some routines, and feel like you’re actually experiencing Maui rather than just passing through it.

Great location and great price over the Christmas holidays. Clean, comfortable, and a much bigger space than I had expected.

It’s like a resort property in a nice area, with several dining options nearby and close to the beach. There’s quite a few parking in the property. The room we got is near the entrance of the property, so a short walk back from parking area. The room is spacious and clean on the street level. I’d say pretty well equipped with a nice resort vibe. We also got a small kitchenette which was quite nice. There seems to be quite a few facilities like pools in the property but we didn’t use it cause we wanted to explore the island.

Great location, walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Free on site parking very convenient and close to rooms. Nice rooms.

Location is right across from the beach, and easy walk to food/food trucks and ABC store. Very comfortable temperature rooms (air conditioning!) and very clean! Pool was nice to have on site.

the room is spacious but the furnitures are old. The location is accessible, close to where we want to take some sunset/sunrise photos.

Beach in walking distance. Very nice room with a balkony. View to the green garden. Very quiet area in the back of the resort. Great for a beach holiday! Parking space included. Nice location at the south coast of Maui to do day trips in the surroundings (e.g. Haleakala National Park). It was one of the nicest stays we had during our Hawai’i vacation.
