Maui Schooner Resort Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled into Maui Schooner Resort, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star property. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This place sits right on South Kihei Road, and while it might not have the flashy lobby of those massive resort chains, there’s something genuinely welcoming about it. The parking situation alone had me sold — finding a free spot in Kihei can be like hunting for unicorns, but here it’s actually included.

Location That Actually Matters

I mean, location ratings don’t lie, and couples are giving this spot a 9.3 for good reason. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from some of Kihei’s best beaches, and I’m talking about the kind where locals actually hang out, not just tourist traps. The road can get a bit busy during peak hours, but that’s just Maui life — you learn to embrace the island pace. What really impressed me was how easy it was to grab groceries or hit up local food trucks without needing to drive across the island.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’re spending most of your time exploring the island. The air conditioning actually kept up with the Hawaiian heat, and there were enough outlets for all my devices (small victories, right?). The views vary depending on which unit you get, but even the garden-facing ones have this tropical vibe that reminds you you’re definitely not at home anymore.

Amenities Worth Mentioning

Here’s where things get interesting — they’ve got a tennis court that’s actually well-maintained, not one of those sad, cracked affairs you sometimes see. The hot tub was my evening ritual after long beach days, and it’s positioned perfectly for watching the sunset colors start to paint the sky. If you’re into fishing, the staff knows the local spots and they’re pretty generous with tips about where the fish are biting. It’s these little touches that make you realize the people running this place actually care about your experience.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy resort on your feed, but it delivers on what actually matters during a Maui vacation. The staff treats you like a person, not a room number, and the location puts you right in the sweet spot of South Kihei without the premium price tag of beachfront resorts. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something refreshingly low-key about the whole experience that lets you focus on each other and the island instead of fighting crowds at overcrowded pool bars. Sometimes the best vacation memories come from places that just let you be.

The staff and facilities were fantastic. We loved that it was right on the beach, easy to access, low-key environment, and cozy.

We liked the accommodations for our party of seven. The full apartments cannot be beat for the price. We used the pool and hot tub, took walks on the beach. Were within walking distance to coffee shops.

Loved the ocean view. Condo was very clean. We didn’t like that we had to take trash out and load dishwasher for the high price charged. Had to walk a long way from the parking lot since the close spots were usually taken

  • Kyoko from United States (8/10)

The convenience and near to the beach.
The also provided a ground level condo which helped our senior family member.

  • Keith from United States (9/10)

It was the perfect accommodation for my stay. Easy to locate, the flat was extremely clean and had everything needed. Being able to open the sliding door on the ground floor and enjoy the lanai was wonderful. Being able to walk into a space that felt like it was my own for a few days was the perfect way to end each day.
