Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Maui Sunset B402 when I first pulled up – I mean, it’s a 3-star condo property, so I figured it’d be pretty basic. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. The building sits right in Kihei, and while it’s not beachfront (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), you’re literally a two-minute walk to Kamaole Beach Park II, which is actually one of the better family beaches on this side of the island. The locals use it too, which always tells you something.
The unit itself is on the fourth floor, and here’s the thing – that elevation actually works in your favor. You get these gorgeous sunset views over the water without the ground-floor foot traffic noise. I stayed there during whale season in February, and honestly, I could watch humpbacks breaching right from the lanai with my morning coffee. The trade winds hit perfectly at that height too, so even on those sticky Maui afternoons, there’s usually a decent breeze flowing through. The kitchen is surprisingly well-stocked – I mean, they actually have a decent knife and a coffee grinder that works, which you can’t take for granted in vacation rentals. The living space feels bigger than it probably is because of how the light comes in, though the furniture is definitely showing its age (that couch has seen some things, let’s just say that).
Parking was way easier than I expected – there’s an assigned spot, and you don’t have to play musical chairs like at some of the resort properties down the road. The pool area gets pretty lively around 3 PM when families return from beach time, but mornings are peaceful if you’re into that early swim routine. Location-wise, you’re about five minutes from Foodland if you need groceries, and Pi’ilani Highway is right there when you want to head up to Haleakala or over to Hana. The Wi-Fi actually works well enough for video calls (tested it multiple times), which was clutch since I had to jump on a few work meetings. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the shower pressure could be better, but for the price point and that sunset view? It’s a solid choice, especially if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the island anyway. Just don’t expect resort-level service – you’re pretty much on your own once you check in, but that’s part of the charm of staying in a local condo building rather than some massive hotel complex.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hawaii at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak winter season when the islands host numerous cultural festivals and outdoor activities.

Location to the town and proximity to the ocean was excellent. The balcony added another dimension to the living space and we used it all the time.
