Hotel Description
You know what? When I first pulled up to Maui Sunset, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star condo complex – honestly thought it might be one of those tired timeshare places that screams 1980s. But B204 actually surprised me in the best way possible. The building sits right on Keawakapu Beach (which, let me tell you, is way less crowded than the zoo that is Wailea Beach just down the road), and from this particular unit, you get these sweeping ocean views that make you forget you’re not staying at some fancy resort. The lanai faces west, so if you’re into sunsets, you’re basically getting front row seats every single night – I mean, the name makes sense now.
What really won me over was how lived-in and comfortable everything felt. The kitchen’s actually functional, not just some sad kitchenette with a mini-fridge, so we ended up cooking breakfast most mornings and saving a fortune on those overpriced hotel buffets. There’s this great little market called Foodland Farms maybe ten minutes away where you can grab everything from local fish to decent wine without the tourist markup. The condo itself feels like someone’s actual vacation home rather than a sterile rental – there are books on the shelves, beach chairs you can borrow, even some snorkel gear that looked reasonably clean. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s dealt with Maui accommodations knows is not always a given.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t luxury by any stretch. The furniture’s comfortable but clearly not new, and the bathroom could use some updating. But honestly? That’s part of what I liked about it. You’re not paying resort prices, you’re not dealing with crowds fighting over pool chairs, and you’re staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than manufactured. The building’s quiet – mostly seems to be occupied by repeat visitors who know the drill and aren’t there to party. Keawakapu Beach right outside is perfect for morning walks, and it connects to Wailea Beach if you want to wander down and people-watch at the Grand Wailea. Plus, you’re close enough to Kihei for groceries and casual dining, but far enough south that you avoid most of the chaos. For the price point and that location, B204 delivers exactly what it promises – no fancy bells and whistles, just a solid base for exploring Maui with one hell of a view to come home to each day.
